It would be neat if you could find dwarves either by locating a dwarf mob-spawner in a dungeon or just find them wandering around in caves.
My idea is two-fold.
First, pay them a gold bar, and they'll follow you and fight for you, or you could right-click on them to have them guard an area like dogs, but they would have their own armor and weapons, so they would be more effective. Pretty basic watch-my-back stuff.
Second, pay them a diamond, and they will hand you three maps of the underground area you're in, showing you clearly where resources are. The first map would be the depth-level you are currently standing on (say...in a 10 or 20 chunk-square area), the second would be the same area 5-10 chunks below you, and the third 5-10 chunks above you. All veins of a certain resource could be identified by little icons, along with dungeons and lava showing up clearly.
This is a major advantage, but I think the price of a diamond would keep it from being too overpowered. Plus, eventually, you'll wind up buying maps for an area with poor caches of resources, so it would balance out.
Not sure how big the maps should actually be, or how maps of underground areas would be handled, but it would be cool to be able to plan out a mine to some extent.

Kinda cool. But dwarfs are a little generic. Maybe something more original, like pigmen?
I'm not married to the "dwarf" idea. It's the functionality I'm after. Consider "dwarves" a working title.
I think pig-men should remain Nether-specific. Maybe something totally different, like "Wisps"? Little glowing lights that follow you around for gold and give you the maps for diamonds.

What would a floating ball of light want with gold? How does it draw maps?

Why does a Ghast spit fireballs? How come pigmen share a communal consciousness? Why do zombies explode into feathers when you kill them? Why does a creeper commit explosive suicide when you look at it too closely?
I don't know--it's just cool! Pay some gold, get a light source that follows you around. Give it something shinier, it magics you up some maps. Maybe wisps just like shiny. There could be a mod that lets you pay it with cakes or cookies instead.

I thought about that idea of having the dwarves mine for you except it was with a golem that you craft and send on a digging mission. Something like you build him and then he mines a path a hundred blocks or so in the direction of the block you click him on including going straight down. I imagine you can craft a flesh golem out of leather that's doesn't go very far and dies in lava and you could make a stone golem that goes a long way and just keeps going through lava.

They are talking about just pigmen. The model for the character is in there, but it isn't being used.
I don't like this idea too much to be honest. No support from me.
Yes, they should totally add pigman.:tongue.gif:
I find this idea easily replaceable with pigmen so -1
