So in minecraft, there is fire.
Fire can be used to set traps, clear forests, and much much more.
But there is currently no way to control fire.
We need OIL.
Oil would be found deep underground, usually near lava and diamonds.
It can be used, with the same physics as water, to create paths for fire to follow. It could even allow for fire to burn, going in an up direction.
The fire would follow the path of the oil QUICKLY.
Im talking about 1 - 1.5 seconds between each block of oil catching on fire.
Now think of the possibilities -
Traps that could easily and quickly be hand activated, making fireplaces again (without netherack), etc.
This would be a great addition to minecraft already, but I haven't mentioned the crafting possibilities yet.
There could be minecarts with switches on just that minecart, allowing you to set it moving in the proper direction from inside.
You could make decorative chandeliers that burn with OIL.
Think on it!

I have other people's signatures stuck off, so I can't ever seem them. Oh well.
Nicely phrased, and I agree with most of your suggestions. But there are numerous other oil topics (albeit without good english) that have these ideas and more. Other than that, I support.
I think it would be brilliant if you could gather it in a bucket and then lay it in trails like redstone, then use it as a fuse, or just put a single piece for a fireplace. Excellent idea, I support!

I had the same exact idea last week. Wow... wierd. I was even about to make a post of it when I found this one. Maybe be found in y-axis: 30 and below?
I personally do not feel that Minecraft really needs oil to be honest. Minecraft's technology is almost primarily psuedo-magical. You have Netherack that burns forever, Lightstone that gives off its own light, Redstone that acts as both a magical force and electricity. Oil really doesn't seem like it would have much use.
Lanterns: Lightstone would fit a lot better in Minecraft, and it seems like it was the intent of it in the first place.
Really, the only use I'd see oil having is directing fire. However, since wood burns and is much easier to get a hold of, why not just use it?
If it had a unique use that would fit well in Minecraft, I could see it being useful. I just don't see it fitting in very well as it is currently suggestion. In addition, I do not like the concept of oil being some underground resource that can be used as fuel (Lava already has that position in MC).
Perhaps oil could be made from grain, used to create paint, poured and act like water (but burnable), and used in a bucket as fuel. Paint would be able to colorize other blocks and really be the main use of oil. An underground crude-oil like substance just doesn't feel right to me for Minecraft.

Cause the other guy who just suggested it didn't have good English.

ALSO make fire "blocks" that originated from burning oil brighter and aren't affected by the resent fire nerf

I'd like to see it in Vanilla, however.
You get too much stuff from just digging deep as is.
