Have you ever employed a landmine trap against mobs or other players on SMP only to have it foiled because your would-be victim was able to get out of the TNT's range before it exploded? Have you ever triad to dig out a large cave with a large grouping of TNT blocks but been killed because one of the TNT flew outwards and blew up in your face? Or maybe you want your cannon to be able to fire your shot the moment you press the button. This simple suggestion would fix those problems!
Short-fused TNT is simple and is rather self-explanitory. Normal TNT has a countdown period of about 5 seconds between the time of ignition and the time of detonation. You activate it and then you have to wait another 5 seconds before it goes kaboom. Short-fused TNT has no countdown period. You can activate it with redstone wire, pressure plates, hit it, etc and it goes kaboom right away.
Aside from having a wide variety of uses in replacement of or alongside with the regular 5-second-fused TNT, this update would require very minimal coding work on Notch's part.
I sense Mine of Duty 4.... Put this with guns and you have a battle field.
I'm pretty sure that if you wanted to make Minecraft similar to Call of Duty in that sense, you would need to have arrows be capable of igniting TNT. Arrows are not able to ignite TNT as of now, so you really cannot build a Minecraft area that functions like a Call of Duty map.
If I remember recent tweets rightly, you may soon need to use flint and steel or redstone to light TNT. If they added the ability to ignite it with a fire arrow (a regular arrow shot through flames), that'd be cool.

I agree, that would be pretty cool.
But still, why not!
