I know there's a post or two from way back regarding seeded worlds and such, but I think my suggestion is sufficiently different to warrant its own thread.
Basically, the one thing about Minecraft which has bothered me ever since Creative mode was sort of phased out was the sheer size of a world. I know the world is generated in chunks, and only when they're called for, and file size is not my main concern. I'm just overwhelmed by the effectively infinite span in every direction whenever I try to play the game, and while I want to enjoy the game, what always happens is either the setup required just to find my way home without a compass turns me off of a world completely, or I get horribly lost and, upon looking at the save file's directory, find that I'm no fewer than ten miles away from the spawn point.
So what I really want is the ability to choose a size of map, with maximum outside borders, like 256x256x128 and 512x512x128 blocks. The borders could of course just act as they did in old Creative mode, with either unending water or a wall of bedrock, based on elevation. Of course, this would just be an option, as I think the larger-than-the-Earth's-surface default setting is important, too, if not really my cup of tea.
The introduction of Biomes also complicates this idea somewhat, as if you have a particular biome you want to play in it's not as simple as walking off in one direction until you find it, and since generation a world takes five to ten business days on older hardware, I think the ability to have some control over biomes in a limited-size world is important too. Whether it's picking a single biome for the world to fill up with or setting percentages per land type, as long as there's some degree of control I think it's good.
I know this idea won't be terribly popular, but I hope there's some form of support for it. I know that limiting the size of a generated world would greatly improve my enjoyment of it.
I do wish we had biome options. I would love epic sized biomes and for those who want to why shouldn't they be able to start in a specified biome.
Thats awful, I DO NOT want my world being limited like that, and will petition it if that ever happens, that is BS. Worlds aren't infinite already, their are the Far Lands which is the end of the map, but that small? This is an idiotic idea.

Okay... First chill. There is no reason to freak out and "petition"
You wouldn't be forced to use a limited world. It was mentioned as going to be an option for server owners who don't want people to just wonder off into the infinite lands. Or perhaps players with limited resources on their PCs/Laptops. The xbox version and mobile versions however are probably limited.
I know the worlds are not actually infinite but there is no way to get the the far lands without cheating. Can somebody actually walk 4 times the size of the earth in their lifetime? (4 times assuming you start in the middle and head towards and edge)

Not everything is put on the Wiki. A lot of stuff gets missed. I like the idea though.
By the way, I've take the liberty of adding this to the World Generation Megathread. I have not added one or more of the ideas (Choosing a Biome) as that is already mentioned in the thread in roughly the same manner. The OP will receive credit of course.

Incorrect, it's 8 times as much.

Five minutes later, the Predator was killed in a tragic incident involving bloodthirsty baby chicken.
And actually, it is possible to reach the Far Lands without cheating, it just takes over 100 hours of nonstop moving IIRC. Isn't somebody on YouTube trying it?

i would like ( not suggesting this ) the same way terraria creates their worlds , small , medium or large , and dont say : Dont act stuff from terraria , because this option of world size is also in Minecraft Classic , so i am not suggesting anythign from terraria , anyways , this should be added...
Also , choosing biomes... it will make stuff too... easy , if we want to find an incredible biome just walk a little , so i dont support that one...

Im pretty sure the last number i saw was somewhere in the 14 year range for walking non-stop.

Well, you have to remember that your spawn point is going to be set by where you start, not where you start building, so if you want to move to a better biome, that means it's even harder to get back home after dying, and the best form of navigation, the redstone compass, no longer works, really.
