I had an idea yesterday of the possibility of being able to stack half-blocks. Now, I already know that you can stack 2 stone slabs, 2 wood slabs, etc, etc. But what about being able to stack, for example, a stone slab on a wood slab? The only reason that I can think of for this would be for aesthetics. But then again, building is pretty much 50% of Minecraft so why not be able to stack different half-blocks? Please leave a comment telling me what you think or if this topic has been already brought up. If it has, then I'm sorry. Thanks for reading:)
The reason you can't do that now is not because notch doesn't want you to, it is because of how the game handles half blocks. To the game, half blocks take up the same amount of space that a full block does, and the programming only lets you place the same kind of half block on one. It would take a relatively large amount of time to fix this, an I can't see any place that it would be useful.

Exactly. to you sir.
A block that's half stone and half wood would look a bit odd to me, not very aesthetically pleasing. (That said, if they introduce pistons which, according to current screenshots, are exactly that, I suppose I could get used to it.)

What i'm referring to is for more modern architecture. Most people, when they build in this style, have a wooden roof with stone half-blocks on the sides and on the top(still leaving an outer rim of wood)of the roof. What I mean is that by being able to stack different half-blocks is that by doing so, you wouldn't see the wood exposed on the roof. It would look like it would be all stone half blocks but once your under the roof, it looks like it's all wood still.

Definitely. I came here to say the Exact same thing lol. Here is a link to the suggestion/mod that shows that not only is it possible to stack 2 different slabs, but you can make blocks that are made of up to 8 different materials.
