We've got our doors, and we've got out trap doors. Now we want portcullis.
I've seen many static decorations that imitate the feature or using mods to create it, so it is definitely something that the players will want.
Like normal doors this will require two block IDs to implement:
the Base, and the Fencing
The base is placed by the player and how the portcullis is controlled.
The fencing is the movable part that is the "door" and two or three blocks of fencing should hang from the Base block. The fencing should be transparent and allow attacks to pass through, but block movement.
When the the base block receives power the fencing is pulled up until completely atop the base, or blocked.
The base blocks when placed next to each other should transfer power and align like powered- rail, so players can have some modularity in the width of their portcullis.
As for the crafting, I imagine wood blocks above fence blocks:
Umm... What?
Sorry, but I don't really get what you're trying to suggest.

You invade this world claiming it as your own simply by your presence.
You slaughter animals for their hides and flesh.
You destroy the landscape and gouge out the earth to build your monuments to vanity.
And yet you call me monster.
but having dropable more than 1 block portculli would be nice that and only real way to do block gates with pistons would be if they could
A:push blocks more then one space and more then one at a time or
B:have 2 sets that 1 rises from the floor and other drops from cealing
as for this its a far better astetic value also i think having iron and stone options would be good for astetics but would need adding of iron and stone fences
potential resipe could be (showing with iron)
= iron = iron fence = redstone
wile the iron version would be more expencive it would offer astetic options cause realy who uses a wood portcullis on their castle
