Hi, today I'd like to suggest an idea I have been pondering for a while, I am open to criticism and suggestions and I have thought this through.
I just thought, that since I heard notch stated he might make saltwater and freshwater, why not give them different physics? You could add rivers with freshwater, which have a constant current without all of that annoying constantly going down a block so that you eventually get to bedrock if you want to make a canal for you boats to go through. You could perhaps make it so that only freshwater could water crops, and when/if realistic mode comes out, only freshwater will be potable. You could perhaps even make it so that enough rain in one spot forms a source of freshwater. I have, however, thought this through with water physics and I decided that it limited machinery and water decoration, so that's why we would have saltwater, which contains the current physics of the water we have now. There will be almost no limitations with this (except for the watering of crops, which again, is optional), and all it does is add new content. My purpose is not to make minecraft more realistic, it is to make it more fun.
I want to know what you guys think.
Oh and before you guys troll this, I would like to tell you I did in fact use the search and I didn't find any suggestion exactly like this one.
Technically, magma is the lifeblood of the Earth. It's what causes the electromagnetic forces which helps the planet spin.
Also: Formatting... Take that HUGE ASS PARAGRAPH and seperate it into 3 or 4 smaller paragraphs. It'll be easier for us to read, and easier for you to edit.
It probably would be something more like every source block is a moving water block, or maybe something like the water current is every 100 blocks. or something.

There are not nearly enough sentences in the original post to make up 3 or 4 paragraphs. What he posted is actually a rather normal length for a paragraph. Not everyone composes their thoughts in one or two sentence segments the way most people post on the internet.
Also, it's kind of lame to respond to a thread with a suggestion for the game just to nitpick about nonsense which isn't really related to the suggestion. Cut it out.
(Is that short enough for your attention span?)
Anyway, since a separation between salt and fresh water is already an idea that interest Notch I'm sure he's already working on ways to make them different in a way that actually affects gameplay. It would be pretty disappointing if the only difference is a variation in fish akin to the two types of mushrooms.
Not bad, but I think the freshwater should just have a much longer current. Since this is kind of Water Physix I think you could include a siphon system?
