well since the update 1.6 they added a useful new object called the map, its great because we can allow ourselves to stray off a path everyonce in awhile, but one of the things that really struck me about the map object, is that we hold it with two hands. like we would in real life. this shocked me considering the way we hold our ladders or buckets in the game, not that i hate it. i just believe that notch should take some time to update the way we hold certain objects.(ie: buckets, ladders, railways, doors, minecarts, boats) and other things that we might hold differently.
here we see someone holding a map with two hands much in the same way you would in real life.
and here we see how we hold buckets of deadly minerals that have been heated to temperatures hot enough to melt iron, does it seem rational to hold your buckets with one hand and at an angle? no it seems weird, now i hate to use a "realism argument against any of the features of minecraft, but this implementation would be purely asthaetic and wouldn't affect gameplay.
I realize that it was implemented this way originally since notch didn't care for realism when he created it, but now that he already designed the map holding animation it would only be a little tweaking and fixing before we could hold ladders with two hands or doors.
now the only possible problem that i can imagine with this being implemented is the obstruction of vision with larger objects such as doors or minecarts but if it can rotate up or down in the same way as the maps then it would really pose no problem (then again i am no expert at java or modding so if someone cares to point any problems out, be my guest)
so tell me what you think, constructive criticism is appreciated.
you seem to have gone over the top for such a simple suggestion, still, its nice to see people who properly explain what they are suggesting. +1 support
So are smooth lighting, fancy graphics, desert shrubs, leaves, and even zombies in the sense that you can already get feathers from chickens.
Incorrect.
Smooth lighting looks (arguably) better. Fancy graphics too. Shrubs are for atmosphere/aesthetics. Leaves give saplings. Zombies kill you and, if this suggestion is ever added, provide a good chunk of the game's challenge.
though you actually came across with your point well...if notch isnt even fixing legit bugs i dont think hes goin to change a simple graphical appearance that means nothing.
The game itself is extremely unrealistic, so who cares. Lava wouldnt be in a bucket period irl except one made of extremely thick, durable metals.
Not a bad idea, but I wouldn't interrupt other development to do it. Truly, the only thing that I ever really noticed is how the Bow appears in your hand. I'd rather it simply be a bit bigger so that only the top half shows.

And lava gives 3rd degree burns from 5ft away. I guess we should make it to where lava kills you within a block.

That's how I did it.
