So my favorite thing to do is build in Minecraft, and creating wonderful buildings is extremely rewarding. The one thing that I would love to see, that would help me improve my buildings is an shift place option on direction oriented blocks. The main one I would like to see is shift placing a stairs or slab would place it upside down. This would allow one to build to some archways and such. On some solid blocks it would just place the block on it's side thereby rotating the texture 90 degrees, like wood top and bottom would face the side of the block to be able to make log cabins with logs on sides.
Not looking for any fancy mechanics just more flexibility with what is already there.
One problem would be that shift is already used for creep/sneak (whatever you like to call it), so if you were placing turnable blocks and used shift they would turn, even if thats not what you intended.
So another key maybe, but yeah I like this :smile.gif:

I don't think it needs to be a key at all. Just make it context-sensitive. If you try to place a stair block on the bottom of another block, it places upside-down stairs. This means builders will have to be a little bit creative in order to get blocks exactly where you want them. We already do a little of this maneuvering with stairs already, as well as with some applications of fences.

I think you are going to love my Survival Let's Play series on YouTube! It's called Spaceboot1's Garden. I make pretty things.
I can't say I agree with this idea. What purpose would it serve for only 2 blocks? Other than that, why would you place any other blocks sideways or upside down? No offence.

Just wood, really. For the "log" look. Maybe it could be a workbench craftable item. Three raw wood blocks horizontally would make a log laying on its side West-East. Three vertical would make a log laying North-South. You could go from there: carve out windows and what-not.
I'd take a look at the eighth block mod. It condenses the Stair and Slab, as well as 14 other possible blocks into a single Block ID and they can all be placed upside down. That is like the Minecraft definition of more freedom:

Thanks - Love the game.

This was going to be my next post. I just built a log cabin type structure and thought this would be a good idea.
I'd also like to be able to harvest tall grass to make "Thatching" blocks for roofing.
