Springs would be a quick way to soar up 2 blocks + the hight of your jump, with a limit of 20 blocks. I currently have no idea what the springs would craft like, suggestions in the comments would be greatly appreciated.
Then there would be padded blocks. Springs will cause damage if you hit the ceiling, like reverse fall damage. Padded blocks negate flying up damage, and fall damage to 20 block heights, then it adds on normal fall damage.
When = any wool block and = wooden planks
Please say any suggestions or CONSTRUCTIVE criticism in the comments. Please no "YOUR IDEA SUCKS!!!!!!" kind of comments, you know what they are. Also, I think no one else has done this, I did google it, but please tell me if it has.
Doesnt Pistons mod already do that? Be more specific with the padded walls idea.
Yeah, it may have sounded different in my head. The basic idea is: You fly up, and it uses the formula for fall damage so the number of blocks you travel up indicates the damage you will take. BUT, if there is a padded wall block, you do NOT take any damage, and if you fall from a height of 20 blocks or less, you take no fall damage, and if you fall from a height above 20 blocks, you take fall damage. Example: you jump from 30 blocks. The normal fall damage, 9 hearts, (Just guessing, btw) gets the damage from the first 20 blocks, 6, subtracted from it. Wow, it IS confusing. I guess it's one of those "You know what is is, it's just REALLY hard to explain."

I did mention them in the second paragraph
