There is a line between reality and Minecraft, and dare to cross it to Minecraft-ify one of the most useful siege weapons in medieval times: The catapult.
This has been brought up before, and the outcomes either destroy the thread entirely or wage a flame war that has many casualties. I think this idea is different enough.
So construct a catapult you must place a 3x4 (or is it 4x3? The 3 is the height, the 4 is width). wooden platform to place the catapult piece that is made with string, wood and cobblestone. Right clicking the platform with the piece gives it catapulting abilities and with wheels!
(don't tell me where they came from, same place where the tools you get from a crafting bench and the wheels on a cart.)
To move this mighty vessel you must push it. It's is slow to move and hard to turn. It can cross not straight paths albeit with lower speed so it is recommended to make straight roads and half blocks to ensure maximum speed and direct transfer. Once you have placed the catapult where you want it to be you right click it to aim it properly (sorta like a turret :wink.gif:) Aiming it is painfully slow but shoots direct hit. You can order precision artillery with this.
You arm it by right clicking it with a block. Then a lever on the opposite side of where you aim it (left and right sides). The lever will move back, and the catapult's load goes down, clicking the lever again sends it flying to your target! The block can only break what is the same strength to it or lower while if you attack something stronger it takes good power and multiple times to break. The lever is within reach while sitting.
You can also place yourself in the catapult and get launched into enemy territory or you want really fast travel. You can damage wood and dirt blocks with ease but cobble takes some health. Landing deals 2 and a half hearts. A new transportation system?
It is recommended to have another person while using the catapult. He would push the cart and reload while you aim and fire.
You can place a chest on the catapult and place some items there. A good way of transporting goods through hard to pass terrain.
You can place a flammable block on the catapult and light it up and then launch it to burn through wooden structures.
I'd like to see a useful vehicle in Minecraft, something widely used. Maybe a caravan wagon (I think it's called.)
Caravan Wagons could be pulled by pigs (That'd ave to make pigs controllable) and anyone can enter in the back and get public transportation :biggrin.gif:.
Wagons have been suggested before, but I agree with you two. I would love to see both of these in Minecraft, but catapults will cause SO much griefing it isn't even funny. "Oh, look. I think thats ... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!" And there goes the village.
It would be more fitting for Minecraft if there would be something with a leverage effect, allowing the players to create catapults themselfs, just as they do with tnt-cannons.
Also Minecraft is not some sort of siege-strategy-game as it is now.
I did say you had to make the platform using wood blocks.. You also use blocks as ammo.

Support all the way.
I want to knock down Mattk8's SMP castle with a catapult soooo badly.
