A trap block is a block created to look like a real block. However, instead, it records the player's name and writes it as a note that can only be destroyed by the person who created the Trap Block.
A trap block can be activated by:
Pressure Pads
Switches
Redstone Currents
Being punched
Being stood on
How do you craft it? Simple. = Original Block
:Flint and Steel: = Dispenser
:Flint and Steel:
The original block would be whatever you wanted to create. You can give it effects, it doesn't have to be just a Dispenser in the center.
When activated with....
Dispenser inside = Shoots a barrage of arrows at the person.
TNT inside = Explodes
Pork Chop inside = Summons wolves that detect the intruder as a foe
Treasure Chest inside= Opens up a mimic of a treasure chest, filling it with diamond goodies.
Any block affected by gravity inside= Suffocates the intruder.
More are explained below.
Of course, if you build it, it's not going to affect YOU the first time you tinker with it. It won't work the first time, period. Instead, it will work the 2nd time. By the way....
If the original block is....
Any "useless" block = Disguises self as block and captures name of griefer
Any ore = Disguises self as [ore] Block [NOT THE ORE ITSELF]
Any item crafted with an ore = Launches the item at great force, doing the same damage as if taking 2 hits from it. It can be picked up if the block it is in has been taken out, however.
Any rare item [Dungeon Stuff] = Transforms the block into a random spawner of either Spider, Zombie, or Skeleton that will instantly attack the intruder. It will despawn when shut down.
Any item from Nether = Blocks off movement for intruder, and forces them into the Nether. When they enter the nether, or when the block is shut down, the original portal will break.
Any item from Tree= Plants sapling under griefer's feet, and adds bonemeal if they move.
Lava Buckets = Launches 2 Ghast Fireballs at them.
Water Buckets = Water fills up the space that the block itself is occupying [with a 6x6 radius max], which suffocates griefer. When shut down, the water drains.
Shut down:
Whenever a block is in the state of "Shut Down" [i.e.: Off] it will act as a regular block, disguising itself as one. When it "Powers Up" [i.e.: On] it will do whatever it does. If two combinations are mixed [i.e.: Cocoa Beans, treasure chest] Then the first action will happen. As soon as the Griefer finishes up, and closes it, the block goes into stage 2 [aka second list] and does whatever is listed. Or in this case, a spawner would be switched with the block. Upon being used, the block is destroyed.
They ARE a bit overpowered. And sort of unrealistic. Think about it. Putting a dispenser inside gives a block an unlimited amount of arrows. Nether rack that has nothing to do with a portal (accept for the fact that they're in a portal), sends them to the nether? I mean, it's a good idea and all, but it should be something like, you have to refill arrows,or the block just disappears, and the player falls down into (lava, bedrock level?). Then it will respawn, trapping them inside.

SMP-only suggestions are all bad.
Sigged as best I could with this forum's idiotic sig limits.
Oh, thank you. I laugh more when other people like what I write than when I actually write it.
