I was finishing my time playing Terraria the other day. Not very good replay value on that game because the creativity is very limited. But I noticed it had an appeal that I haven't found in minecraft. Furniture. And it made me wonder why it hasn't been implemented before. I love a lot of the changes they've made in minecraft. But honestly, I'm NEVER going to have a wolf following me around while I'm doing stuff, he just gets in the way. Why not spend half that effort, to get a slew of furniture items introduced into minecraft? Yes, you can make furniture-esque things by being creative, but why should we have to? So here is some suggestions, feel free to post your own.
Wooden Chair
You can sit down! And...sit...and relax. Yeah. Placing a wooden chair next to another wooden chair would make a bench.
Recipe:
Chair
You can sit down! And it's more comfortable! Placing a chair next to another chair would make a couch. Wool color could be changed to change the color of the upholstery.
Recipe:
Table
A Table at which you can put placeable items on. Placing a table next to another table would extend the table.
Recipe:
Coffee Table
A shorter table at which you can put placeable items on. Placing a coffee table next to another coffee table would extend the table.
Recipe:
Candle
Placeable. An old style candle holder and candle. Provides light. The type of ingot used for the base would change what color it was.
Recipe:
Chandelier
Attaches to ceiling. A simple Chandelier. Provides light. The type of ingot used would change the color of the metal.
Recipe:
Books
Change to placeable. Same recipe.
Shelf
Attaches to wall. Sort of a 1/3 platform. Placeable items can be placed on it. Placing a Shelf next to another shelf would extend the shelf.
Recipe:
Dresser
A small storage item, not nearly as many slots as a chest. Placeable items can be placed on it. Replace the stone half-blocks with wooden ones.
Recipe:
Short Dresser
Same as Dresser, just half the height. Replace the stone half-block with a wooden one.
That's all I could think up right now. I'm sure you guys have lots of great ideas too!
while this is a good idea, it's a bit over-suggested here in the "Suggestions" forum. Yours seems to be a lot more well thought out though.

Thanks for the support! I did a quick search before I posted this and I didn't find anything besides mods and such. So I apologize if I posted something overdone. I didn't mean to.
And the the earlier comment about "why should we have to?". From what I've seen from playing minecraft for a long time, they try to encourage people building lodgings. And with the introduction of beds, they reaffirmed that. I love seeing peoples creations, seen some amazing stuff. But the inside is always lack luster at best. Make-shift chairs look just that--makeshift. As a precursor to this next comment, I really have NO CLUE about programming anything of this magnitude. But judging from the mechanics of something like the wolves they added, I would think it would be very minimal and not very time-consuming to make some furniture items for us to beautify and fill our impressive creations.
:ohmy.gif: This games curent decor is sooo Stone age pioneer. :cool.gif: Now what this place need is a fine dinnig room with drapes for the windows and a crystal shandleer hanging from the vaulted cealing. :smile.gif: I do like the hard wood floors. :blink.gif: Honestly you have no toilet sink or bathtub ! there is a lake!.
Really though a few other craftable house wheres would be a nice addition. I REALLY go for the realistic feal of open world games.
This is over suggested , and if you say you got creativity by doing this... then why you cant use your creativity to make furniture with the things you got now >_<
then why you cant use your creativity to make furniture with the things you got now [goddamned smiley here]
I would rather see chairs that look like chairs as I enter my castle. I don't really want to sit on blocks. I have this much gold and diamond, but I can't afford a chair?
Yes, I understand that the game isn't the Sims, but there's a discernible line. Shitting and pissing and showering aren't a part of the game. Building ****, on the other hand, is a large part of the game (hence blocks can be placed). Building **** involves interiors. Let us expand upon that.
You have my support, OP.
Postscriptum: I don't think that it is conclusive that if someone wants to have better tools, they lack creativity. It would be the same as to say, "You say you're a painter, and yet you need brushes and paints instead of just pissing patterns in the snow."
I think (and correct me if I'm wrong, because I'm never wrong) the argument you're wanting to make is "why can't you use your imagination". If that were the case, then we could just imagine we're playing Minecraft to begin with and not worry about any of this at all.
I have always thought that furniture would be a good addition to minecraft, so I support the idea of furniture.

Where lines are wood and orange square are candles, kind of sucky line thing I made. Though I've never really heard of wooden chandilers but whatever. :biggrin.gif:

An I already have enough of that, I can't tell you how many make-shift chairs I have in my house.

Two signs and a wooden step = chair.
This isn't neccessary, but I like it.
