I've read about people saying to have small whales, and I thought to myself "no". Whales need to be big. That's why I was thinking "why not add a new biome?". I reckon a deep sea biome would be cool, sorta like an ocean, well, exactly like an ocean. Very deep, dark and filled with possibilities. this would add a lot of new ideas for mobs, crafting and other content such as plants e.g driftwood, seaweed, or minerals e.g pearls, fossils. Not to mention you'd be able to have huge whales :laugh.gif:
(hope no one else has posted this idea, if so, sorry)
yes, but then Notch would have to add scuba gear so you could explore the deep ocean, and that would ruin the fantasy feel, maybe a breathing rod can be crafted from reeds by stacking 3 up on a crafting table. they could be a one time use and give either full breath or like 5 bubbles. Flippers would help too, they would go in the shoe slot make you go faster in water, but slower on land. Finally you'll need a portable and/or underwater light source to illuminate the dark water caus going even two blocks deep severely reduces light available.
EDIT: oh and yes, there was a post about expanding the ocean that was very in depth, i lost the link though (sorry to burst your bubble :sad.gif: )

haha, sweet as, but why not a glass bubble helmet? that might work, you know, fishbowl on the head sort of thing. underwater lightsource... lantern maybe? flare? with gunpowder.
i'd like to see more water exploration. like underwater plants, mobs, and items for water. i think a scuba tank would be pretty cool but of course it would wear down every second youre breathing underwater and eventually "break". equip it to your torso and youre good.
another promising step towards this would be because glowstone is now easier to obtain and that could be used in place of torches for underwater exploring. this would also make it so that you must wait and explore the nether before underwater. also if there is an aether coming to the game you could use a mob drop/block that represents air in the crafting of the scuba tank to ensure further exploration in other dimensions.
i just thought this up for a couple seconds, what do you think?

sounds good, but a scuba tank sounds a bit advanced for minecraft, but then again, anythings possible really. i was thinking about mounts and how a good water one would be dolphin, or as i said before, a glass bowl helmet, as travelling underwater shouldnt be that big a deal as its not really restricted or hard to access.
yeah thats true but it would be a tease knowing early on how much is waiting for you in the water but you cant access it yet
thats true, i thought abut your scuba tank thing again and ive come around to the idea if its one of those astronaught looking things, and slow. and a pirate ship :biggrin.gif: well, a big boat at least. i like the idea of sails.
Oh yeah, absolutely, Minecraft's current bodies of water are pitiful to say the least; it's more of a single landmass dispesered with shallow lakes rather seperate continents divided by seas and oceans. I've wanted an ocean biome for quite long, and I like the idea of them having semi-rare tropical islands with coconut trees.
I play Minecraft standing on the roof of my house with a laptop, completely naked, the wind lapping at my hair and genitals. It is very refreshing. The neighborhood watch loves me.
@chow 99 i know man, but im talking about really deep, big whales and being able to go out of the sight of land, and lots of other stuff associated with the ocean.
I think it would be awesome to have more diversity in the creatures that inhabit the world of Minecraft. I've thought about whales too. Huge epic whales. And maybe bears, since we already have wolves. Hawks, wild cats, and dragons, would also rule. They could be spread out across different biomes, so that one doesn't encounter any of them too often. It's always better when it feels more rare, like it would be in real life, right? Imagine you've been exploring your world for a long time, and then you encounter your first bear, and you're like "OH JESUS IT'S A BEAR WHAT DO I DO?!"
but my own ideas aside, i think there is a huge potential for making a deep sea. Doesn't need to be a biome, the oceans just need to be larger to make place for it.
Anglerfish would have to be there, just because they would be scary as hell.
I think Minecraft generally needs some huge creatures. At least one gigantic one that would be scary as all hell. Like a Kraken, or a giant murderous whale. It has to be rare, or maybe it can only occur under special conditions, but it would be so big that while you're swimming, you suddenly realize that there's a huge mouth, the size of a large cave, heading towards you, so large it fills your entire vision.
Dragons would also be epic, obviously. They could live in caves hidden behind waterfalls, and one would find the remains of others in the cave, with treasures and stuff on them. Then you could tame and train the dragon, and you could start riding it. Awesome!
I went totally balls berzerk here, huh? short answer: yes to deep seas.

haha, choice man, i like your enthusiasm, yeah, minecraft needs mounts. theres this dragon mod, look for it on youtube. if it had some improvement i reckon itd be awesome!

i think notch is already planning on whales, i personally like the idea of huge oceans to sail around.

sounds good, have coconuts floating up to shores and things :tongue.gif: or monkey mods? snakes? lots of different possibilities.

yeah, i saw that a little while ago, hopefully it inspires some good updates.
Ehrm... jungle biomes already exist.
haha, yeah man! i like the way you think. serious, this will provide so much new ideas for things.
