Hey, I can't play minecraft on my mac! It gets me to the switching applet screen then pops up with a bunch of "run this program" thingys and I click accept but nothing ever happens.. they just kept popping up. Then my mouse will get stuck and I press escape but it won't move! :/
So, I'm assuming you can't play the classic version on a mac and I think you should add it.
i have an older mac and a newer mac. both have the same updated versions of internet browsers and java and everything, but since one has and older processor, it can't handle running minecraft.
it could simply be that, with the update, your mac is just unable to run the necessary processes and loads that minecraft requires.
Don't turn this into a flamewar guys you are both right. He can either get a better Mac, or a better PC. If you want to play Minecraft I would go PC myself, but only because Java has known issues on Macs.

i have a base model mac book with 2 gigs of ram and a 2.4 duel core and minecraft runs flawlessly.
and this is more or less a topic for the support forum.
Spend countless hours making a Linux build (probably Ubuntu) work. Runs faster than Windows minus Mac OSX, and uses far less hard drive space. GENERALLY runs Java as well as Windows, but if not, WINE runs Java well.
Personally, the only reason I don't use Ubuntu is it's so hard to get into, but I must admit, its performance puts Windows and Mac to shame.

Why do we have a Suggestions section if everyone shoots everyone else down? I suggest renaming it the Flame War section. Pun intended.

Better solution: Upgrade your Mac.
