Imagine if you can have a belt that adds extra slots to your inventory.
Maybe a belt looking item can take the spot of pants and add on like 2 extra slots.
As you craft the belt with better materials, lets say diamond, it will now give like 10 extra slots.
It might also give you just a little bit of armor. It's like you're trading armor for some extra slots.
I'm not sure if someone came up with this idea yet, but I think this would come in pretty handy.

What possible side effects would it have?
When you answer these questions, it would be a good idea to format the answers into OP in a readable manner so that other readers do not have to read pages of content to get the gist of your idea.
The belt will have durability like armor.
If the belt gets destroyed, the items will drop because you don't have the extra inventory slots anymore.
Leather: 1.5/10 armor points -- 3 Extra Slots
Gold Ignot: 2.0/10 armor points -- 4 Extra Slots
Iron Ignot: 3.0/10 armor points -- 7 Extra slots
Diamond: 4/10 armor points -- 9 Extra slots
The Recipe of the belt would be:
How you would place the materials would be: (Leather, Gold Ignot, Iron Ignot, or Diamond) -- 1 Iron Ignot -- (Leather, Gold Ignot, Iron Ignot, or Diamond)
Possible side effects is that if you take fall damage, the belt might easily get destroyed and your items will drop.
