Hey Notch. Consider this one for your next grand update.
Me and a good friend o' mine had this really great idea for an addition to minecraft, that would be difficult to obtain, but valuble and helpful once achieved.
The addition of paint, steel, aluminum, roofing and a machinist table.
Steel is a compound made of two two elements, Iron and Carbon. When bound they form on of the strongest metals known to man. What could you do with this steel. Well, you could build stronger buildings to protect against creepers, build bridges, and taller towers with steel girders.
What can also be built with steel? Well its a far fetch, but trains. Yes, minecarts are nice, but the major mode of transportation of mining material has been trains ever since the steam engine. Box Cars for storing mass amounts of your cargo from one distant mine to your storage area. And a two great locamotives detailed after the steam trains of the old west, and modern BNSF Cargo trains. I'm sure I can't be the only one who walks thousands of chunks to get to his mine, and have a mass storage there that would take game days to bring back. though you can just make a minecart track to your outer mines, having a train would be like going from stone to diamond.
And even more far fetched is the addition of oil and gasoline for these engines. Especially for somethine like a truck. Another form of storage on the move. Detailed after a 1956 Chevy, or Ford, made of Steel and Aluminum. With an in-cab view, you could simply drive from mine to mine, and then park outside your house.
And one more addition, a plane. Made of mainly aluminum being able to travel great distances would make gameplay more adventurous.
In addition these would all aid in multiply. Say you have 6 people on a server, at three mines that are great distances away. And one set of miners needed more of a resource, you could simply drive your truck, or train, of fly in your airplane. Of course for the airplane, a large area to take-off and land would need to be cleared. And Even a version of seaplane would be great for those who build houses near water. Another situtation would be if your playing with a couple of friends, and your in this pretty well developed area, but you want to go start fresh somewhere. Having a truck, or trainline to get back would make things pretty easy for when you decide to link up again. This same concept could be applied to a larger boat made of steel and aluminum. All made by a machinist table 12x42 since most vehicles are longer than they are taller.
The two easiest things to apply would be the idea of a roofing material and paint. Since minecraft is so customizable, why not be able to customize your house a little more. Paint it a red or green, purple or orange. And add a slanted roof. The half-blocks are nice, but kinda add a staggering looking to a house.
Some complex ideas, some easy. Maybe one day we'll see vehicles in minecraft.

Great Idea! I Do hope notch puts it in.
Could there be a formula for it? Like:
( is Iron Block.)
Lava Heats the blocks togeather and smelts it together?

Hello darkness, my old friend I've come to talk with you again because a vision softly creeping left its seeds while I was sleeping and the vision that was planted in my brain still remains within the sound of silence
I don't mean to hate. But I hate this. This isn't what minecraft is. Minecraft isn't automated vehicles or roofing or minigames or even steel stuff. Minecraft is a simple game to build things out of blocks and is supposed to stay primitive to exercise our mind.
I mean , all the world is made out of block , probably the truck would go well if it is all plain , but , when it start going up? How the truck should go up.
For example , real life , lets say a block is 1 M , If you are in a truck , all plain , then , the road is 1M Higher , how the truck would go?
I think the only way to go in this way are the rails , is the only way it will make sense.
One of the better ways to get steel would be to just bind coal and iron together, I believe carbon is found in coal and I'm pretty sure it's a common way steel makers do it, but steel tools is where it should stop.
So, you have a topic title and a description field to tell us what you're trying to suggest, and you leave both of them as vague and presumptuous as you possibly could. Maybe next time you could search before you start spouting ideas that everyone else has already thought of a thousand times. If you don't want everyone on these forums with a few brain cells to stick together to tell you how terrible this is, the best thing to do is not do it in the first place. I don't care how many terrible people come in here and comment on how great any of this sounds without any regard for balance, or considering whether or not it actually adds anything to the game.

If your implying that minecraft is supposed to be simple, then explain why electricity is conducted via red stone wire. Wiring and electricity are complicated methods. Hardly simple.

There is no electricity, lightning notwithstanding. Redstone is magic.

Trains are a good idea tho.
Thread title: A suggestion
Description: A suggestion to be added to vanilla MC.
Uh yeah, we got that bud.
The other part, I dislike planes and trains as an incorporation into MC; "doesn't fit" is a term I'll throw here.
Steel's usage is limited due to this; and MC is square, angles would be a bit perturbing.
overall, I dislike this suggestion.
