Firstly, campfires are made in the crafting inventory like .
These are set down and must be ignited by right clicking flint on them for a good amount of time.
They stay lit for a good three minutes, can be cooked on, have lots of light, and stop mobs spawning for another 25 blcoks, but only one can be used at a time, they go out if you don't supply them with wood, and they can only be used at moderate elevations;too deep or high and the oxygen won't sustain the fire.
This is an alternate means of survival if you can't find coal.

That seems like an awful lot of coding. I was aiming for the medium-level in the game decorative or maybe adventuring block.. Not "Let's make a campfire for the first night.", although that seems like a nice idea.
No matter what kind of wood , it should be burned...
Also , why Flint and Steel? , Why that will make it burn forever?
Probably if you add something like netherrack in the center it have sense.
Neterrack surrounded by Wood , it could be decorative in so many ways , and has sense.
Minecraft? Sense?
Whatchu you talkin' 'bout, Willis?
What is the point of this? It is netherrack with a different look, that is a lot more expensive to make. Why would we have two blocks that do the same thing?

Make Campfire Wood!
This wood burns forever! No nether needed!

I think it should be coal surrounded by wood. It would be WAY easier to get in the early game.
