Hello there, general audience of everyone who reads this.
A few minutes ago, I was looking over some of the Minecraft blocks, when it hit me that there are only 2 liquid blocks. Two. I had always known this, but it never occured to me until now. I thought to myself, "How silly is that? We need more!" So I thought about it. I didnt really think about new liquid blocks, im very unimaginative when it comes to stuff like that, but what I did think of was this; coloured water!
I had thought about how food colouring can dye water, and thought that why cant Minecraft dyes colour water? Why not? Wouldnt that be sweet? Being able to dye a river purple, for whatever reason (people will come up with stuff, for sure). You could make a river of red water, (more ideas on that particular colour later), and could make a great big "chocolate" river. I think that it would be something very useful, not practically, but as decoration for whatever reason.
RED WATER.
So I was thinking about the colours, and when I got to red water, I immediatly thought of the Nether. So i thought, "Maybe red water could spawn in the Nether." This would allow for, since with the great big amount of lava in the nether, to spawn Obsidian blocks, which could be useful to make portals if your out of Obsidian and lost somewhere in the Nether. Also, the nether is shown as a kind of hellish place, red water could be interpreted as blood, or other generally spooky things like that. I'm not too creative, as I said.
Making coloured water.
..is relatively simple, just get the dyes as you normally would in-game, then craft them with a Water bucket, water block if you can obtain one, or use (right-click) a colored dye with a water block. It could spread to other blocks if it is used this way, prompting for the collection of more coloured water blocks by only using one dye, like how you can use dyes on sheep to obtain more than one coloured wool block. Coloured water blocks would act as normally as any other block, same mechanics, same all same everything. There could be more uses, too, however.
EDIT:**Just to clarify, if it was too vague, the water colour would spread to other blocks in a small radius, say, 5 blocks each direction
Other colours
So I thought about the colours more, and realised this. Pretty much all bodies of water in Minecraft are oceans, they are all the same. What if minecraft had small lakes, or ponds? Lets say there are lakes and ponds like this. Instead of the usual dark blue water, it would be a lighter blue, like the light blue dye. It would be as if the water is generally fresh water, and maybe even be drinkable if it is obtained. Also, in snow biomes, this lighter "fresh water" could spawn as if the glacier is melting, as if in real-life. This would also mean that Ice blocks would spawn light-blue water, and maybe even snow blocks could melt and spawn light blue water as well.
EDIT: Water physics
So i was re-reading this again and thought that two different colured bodies of water connecting would be generally a problem, so heres this idea. Coloures mixing, to a certain degree. First of all, coloured water will *always* overtake the naturally spawned colours, including the light-blue, assuming it exists. When two unnatural colours clash, they will mix like they do normally, like red + blue = purple water, etc. Using a dye in a very large body of water will not overtake the entire water body, it will only spread to say, 5 blocks each direction. This prevents making insane accidents when this method is used. Also, when colours have been mixed enough, and there is no more colours left, the result will be black. Black will overtake all colours, and will be the ultimate end of mixing them. Black water will occur when using black dye (ink sacs) on water, or when there are no more results when mixing water (ex. red water + brown water).
FISH
Heres a new idea. Lets pretend these new water variants exist in-game. New types of fish would be added, in the new water colour variants (natural ones only), and can only be found in their coloured water variants. For example, squid mobs can only be found in the ocean, and if they travel to any other water variant, they die. The normal type of fish already in-game would be found in oceans, being more common, and in freshwater, there would be freshwater fish that heal 1 - 1/2 more hearts than the ocean variant. (They would also be harder to fish, takes longer.) Perhaps a new nether fish, in the red nether water, that would heal 2 hearts more, being in the hard to reach Nether. Cooked variants would heal as much as a normal Cooked Fish plus the bonuses I mentioned before. Also, no fish can be found in the unnatural dyed colours, period.
That is all. Think about it and comment.
**Now that I read this over, I guess I am somewhat creative :tongue.gif: :wink.gif:

Another way to colour the world of minecraft :biggrin.gif:
Hmm, maybe another to colour water is to have a dye selected, then right click on a water spring block. That way, the dye colour can spread.
I can imagine an altar of some sort , when you press a button , all the liquids come down and trigger some sort of mechanism like in the movies then you will find a underground city of Simons and you will go on a wacky adventure.

That's what I was trying to imply, but I guess I was being too vague.
