Having just built an awesome castle out of purely obsidian and glass mostly, I'd really like to see some additions added to things like stairs, fences, and doors. I'd love to be able to make obsidian stairs, or an awesome obsidian style fence, or really anything other than your typical sticks/wood for fences, or cobblestone for stairs. When trying to go for that nice classy look it can definitely clash. :tongue.gif: (OCD i know)
I've also noticed that wooden doors "work" the best. As in, the iron doors and other ones that require buttons, levers, or pressure plates to operate.... don't always really work correctly. One door will typically always stay open and there's no way to get it closed. It'd be nice to see the Iron doors have the ability to work the way the wood ones do with just the right click to open/close the door. I'd also LOVE to see some obsidian doors or something put in as well. Basically just requesting that more materials can be used to make various things that are already in the game. =) Mostly vanity and creativity driven. But would like to know the thought process behind either not having this implemented, or if maybe it's something that is being planned/thought of.
Iron doors are meant to be redstone only, having the same functionality as wooden doors would defeat the purpose.

"Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say that there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe." -Frank Zappa
He means, a different type of door or more freedom to use different materials to make doors,
also no-one likes pretentious signatures.
I'm not opposed to more types of doors, stairs, half-steps, etc. In fact, I think there should be half-steps for every building material. I dunno about fences and doors, but that's just because I'm too lazy to think of a good implementation. I'm not opposed to anything in this topic.
And my sig is hilarious. I don't know what you're talking about. >_>

I like the look of iron doors much better then wooden ones, i've just found that they never work for me as in... the door is constantly open. No matter how many times i walk through it with a pressure plate, or press the button or lever on the side... it like will close and then automatically come back open. Maybe it's a bug, it's just annoying. :smile.gif: But yes regardless, I'd love to see more options for stairs/doors/fences, and a gate would be an awesome addition too :happy.gif:
Maybe things like obsidian and stone could be used to create posts or something that are slightly different from your typical stick fence. *shrug*

why double doors are hard to operate correctly is because of the way they are implemented. Its a mirrored door turned 90 degrees, so it stays open when unpowered. Place a red torch under the door that stays open, and it should keep it closed.

You can't make metre cubed pieces of rock get jiggy with each other, that's just WRONG.

Interesting. What do you mean by placing it under neath the door? How would i do that? Making the doors a block above ground?
Stairs can be done with eighth blocks (we're trying to get it solidified toward vanilla inclusion); visit it from my sig.
I support other types of material for doors though.
Mostly, I would like to see glass doors and hidden doors of all other types. Obsidian, Stone, Cobble, Sandstone, and Bookshelf hidden doors would be a plus.
Fences, I'm sort of meh about, I would support iron rails to act as a fence, but I don't think that other objects would necessarily fit in MC.

So with your mod I could make my obsidian stairs, possibly fences or posts to work like fences etc?
