I was mucking about with some TNT in my single player world, and something occurred to me. When an explosion goes off, either something is broken, or it's perfectly fine. I thought that an explosion should destroy what it does normally, but it will shatter Smooth stone ( ) 1 block away from the edge of the destruction, so a creeper crater would be normally sized, but instead of seeing at the bottom of the pit (assuming it would have reached stone in the first place) you would see cobblestone or gravel.
It doesn't add any real functionality to the game, it's purely cosmetic.

That's actually a pretty cool idea. It wouldn't really work with everyone's texture packs, as I use grey cinderblocks as my cobblestone, but it's not a bad idea and it wouldn't be hard to impliment for nizzotch. I think creeper and TNT explosions should also leave a little bit of fire on anything flammable.

Oh man I came into this thinking it was about bones and stuff and getting ready to flame but this is a really good idea, and, as far as I know, original. I would love to see this
While I do like and appreciate the aesthetic aspect, I don't think that this would be something people would readily see. While it's an apparent change when it happens, I don't know if it's really... fully engrossing... to be vanilla MC. Regardless, I'm all for a mod for it.
your kind is rare my friend coz now a lot of peaple will say something like this:when i use tnt i want gold and diamond to drop from stone
but you my friend you are genius
I like this, a proper crater would look nice.
But I have one question, would this affect the different ores? What would happen if a iron ore block is close to the blast? Would that too become cobblestone or gravel? Would the explosion tear the rock apart making it easier to mine out the iron ingot, or would the blast destroy the iron?
How about coal, diamonds and red stone?

You have no idea how tempting it was to act like an idiot and say "well coal under pressure is diamonds, so that will happen", but that's just a stupid idea.
In all honesty, I'm not sure. I don't think there's a reason to change any of the minerals when they are on the crater wall.
Again, I didn't want this to change gameplay at all, I just thought that it would be a nice visual thing.
