I think that the maps that were recently added in with 1.6 should have some way of being able to get brought back if they were burnt.
My idea is that once you make a map and scroll over to it, a selection screen should popup and you should be able to select:
Map_0
Map_1 etc. and then
New Map
This way if you accidentally burn your map or drop it without knowing, etc. You are then able to get it back! :biggrin.gif:
And allow us to edit the map with different colors that map to a key saying what that color is.
Why does your signature complain about the spelling and grammar of others when you just used improper grammar yourself? It should be: "Already Suggested before, use the search bar."
Other map suggestion: Allow the user to mark their map with colored pixels or something distinct.
Reason: Might not be equipped with every tool necessary for what's needed, and marking it to return later on a map is integral to having a map.
Suggestion 2: make the white map arrow smaller or turned off so as to not obscure a large area.
Reason: Even 60 metre areas are only 4 pixels large on a map, and you, as the arrow, cover more than that, so noting changes is hard and marking where you really are is innaccurate by several metres.
Suggestion 3: make the maps able to be combined when areas overlap so as to save inventory space and for ease of viewing/unrolling a map as you travel further. This would, of course, require a scroll function akin to an iPad...or a scroll-rolled map.
lol
But yes, back on topic, separate cartography software is still superior because you can't drop it into lava. :wink.gif: The maps are expensive to make, they take an eternity to complete just one, and you have to travel very far to make a second or third one that doesn't overlap. For all that trouble, I'd like to see them fireproofed or a permanent part of your inventory.
A nifty side idea for invincible maps is a wall scroll that updates no matter where you travel. Sits on your home wall and updates as your current map pieces expand. Only issue would be that if your house is destroyed, so is your wall scroll, but that's far less delicate than travel maps the way they are now.
Eh, ideas that aren't perfect but have some merit, I hope.

How are maps expensive? They take two of the cheapest materials (Iron and Redstone) and then you combine some sugarcane which, after you find one plant, you can easily make a farm for infinite sugarcane. I currently have two stacks of sugar cane, 3 stacks of redstone, and 1 stack of Iron, maps are nothing for me.
Not to mention Notch already said he may add cloning maps so that you can have two of the same, and if you walk somewhere with one the other will update as well.
OT: You should still post in my thread though. It will keep map threads more organized. Though this IMO is a bad idea, because if you screw up... oh well sucks to be you.
I'd just wonder about a newb mining redstone in his first day, but some people just get right into the game and don't hit lava anyway. People keep saying how redstone mining is dangerous because of lava sources that deep down. Really, it's just "expensive" by the number of items to acquire, the frequency of them near you (sugar cane doesn't grow near me, it's at least a day's journey to a small spot), and the time it would take to recreated the entire map should it fall to lava.
But your point of being able to replicate maps will be a good step in the right direction. They're a complicated update, so perfecting this one tiny factor of the game might take a while amidst the heap. I can understand that, I guess.
Now, that takes away the adventure from the game. That would be... Boring. Bo-ring. Not to offend you.
Hm? How do you mean? You mean the sense of danger of loss to keep things somewhat interesting? I can get that. It's part of the gaming experience, and the potential threat of data loss is a small gamer thrill of realism for some. If it were too easy, it wouldn't be survival. Taking valued item loss as a small part of the experience is one positive spin to put on it. Even playing on Peaceful can still be filled with risks.

Just a consideration.
Thanks.

Well what did you search to find it, because i searched and i couldn't find anything, so maybe you can direct me to it.

I clicked on the Forum post that said MAP-MEGA THREAD on the front page and found a thread just like that.
