Hatches have been one really cool thing added recently, but when I played around with them, I found that using redstone with them (especially multiple ones) was a real big pain, and there is no was to open a whole drawbridge and fully concealing the redstone. Hatches should open up if redstone is on the other side of the block, regardless of how the redstone is facing. Here is a picture of what I mean:
This is what works
This is what doesn't work.
If the second image would work too, then we could create draw bridges that open and close without showing any redstone.
But then you only have a hatch every other block.
@Mohawk: No, that doesn't work. The only way to do it is to put the redstone on top of the blocks the hatches are connected to, or a complicated way of putting redstone torches below the blocks the hatches are connected to, both which don't hide the redstone.
I just put a line of redstone one block above and behind my line of dispensers. It's okay here because I can hide it with blocks above the dispensers (can't do this with trapdoors, as it blocks them.)

The way redstone is finicky is just generally inconvenient. I hate having to work around how redstone behaves with certain blocks.
But if you want a solid wall you can do that

It has always bugged me how redstone dust has to be pointing in exactly the right direction to power certain blocks.
Mostly moved on. May check back a few times a year.

With redstone hooked up to the cobblestone (any block)
Repeat the pattern, 1,2,1,2, ect.
The redstone torches are on the sides of the block.
Oh great, I spelled propulsion wrong.
for dispensers use this

Seems like it might work.
