I was thinking of some thing that could implement an RPG game aspect into minecraft without ruining the "balance" of the game:
Something that would probably work would be adding quests based on certain levels (mining, crafting, woodcutting, digging, smelting, etc.)
Maybe like have xp levels that don't have any effect on the game itself (eg. mining level 1 will have the same speed/benefits as lvl 500) but instead when you reach certain levels
you'll get scrolls in dungeons that you can use to engage on small mini-quests witch will give you a reward depending on the difficulty of the quest.
Eg.
Exploring a new world!
You have heard some rumors from different colonies that there is a way to go to another world, supposedly the "entrance" to this world is made out of a very resistant material said to be able to be mined with only a diamond pickaxe; the legend is that one a doorway is build out of this material, when someone sets fire to this "doorway" it will create a portal to another dimension in minecraftia.
Objective:
-Acquire a diamond pick
-Mine 14 blocks of this resistant material
-Create a doorway using the 14 blocks
-Light the doorway
-Enter the new dimension
This would be like a task list, initially only the first objetive will be visible but then others will become visible as you finish the objectives.
The reward would not be given directly to the player, instead the reward will be found the next time you find a dungeon ( witch will probably requiere the player to venture out to unexplored land) and open a chest in it
Eg. After the example quest you will receive a golden apple or some gold ingots; maybe a few blocks of obsidian or some glowstone
The rewards and difficulty of the quest will probably relate to the levels of the player (Higher levels; harder quests; better rewards).
Please tell me what you think.
For if you didn't understand, Minecraft is sandbox. Place quests in it, and gone is the sandbox.
How is it gone? It's just sandbox quests in a sandbox game. If you really don't want to do them, then don't. It won't affect you running around building/doing whatever at all.
