I posted a thread about this a while back, but I think my paragraphs were to long and grammaticly correct for anyone on the internet to read through. So I'll try and keep this short.
I've been playing around with mods alot lately, and I am continuously dissapointed by their lacking use of rubber. Industrialcraft, for example. It uses rubber only for making cables. No other awesome crap that it COULD be used for, just cables. Or Plasticraft. It uses rubber for a few more uses, but still doent optomise it at all.So here's what I'm thinking either needs to get made into a mod or added to the game;
First of all, I dont give a screw how you would obtain rubber. It could be from oil, or from slimeballs, or from tree sap, I really dont care. The only thing it would require would be some way to turn it into a block. Blocks of rubber, when placed would act as a weak trampoline, allowing you to jump 2 blocks high when standing on it. Also, mobs or entities that ran into it from the side would be bounced back a little bit. But aside from the block itself, here're some of the awesome recipies that you could make with it.
Sling Shot
( = Rubber)
This was the first idea I had for rubber. It would be a weapon that when rightclicked, fires the first item in your inventory at the target. I know that you can already throw stuff with Q, but the slingshot would actually make the stuff thrown do dammage, increasing based on the type of item being thrown.
Insulated Boat
( = Rubber)
( = Boat)
I've always hated how easily boats crash while riding them, and especially how they turn into a wood and 2 sticks when they break. So I came up with the idea of insulated boats; A boat surrounded by a rubber lining that will never break when it runs into something. However, this boat would bounce quite a bit when it DOES run into stuff, making it a bit less OP, as your boat is viable to drift out to sea when you dock.
Repeller
( = Rubber)
Basically a rubber sword. When attacking an enemy with it, it would not hurt it but instead repell it back a long ways.
Shapeshifter
( = Rubber)
( = Redstone)
This is a type of block I'd thought would be pretty useful for a while. It would look like a regular rubber block when placed, but when rightclicked or activated with redstone, would morph into a half block with the rubber block's texture, then stairs, then a fence, then a window, etc. This would be useful for hidden doors, closeable windows, removeable stairs, and other various purposes.
Flippers
( = Rubber)
Pretty self explanitory. Armor that would let you swim faster in water.
Pencil
( = Rubber)
A pencil with an eraser. This would be useful if books ever become customizeable for illustrations and such.
Elastic
( = Rubber)
( = String)
Some recipies I came up with just required more than solid rubber. So thus I added the stretchy string hybryd, Elastic.
Speedo
( = Elastic)
The Speedo, intended to be worn with the Flippers, allows Steve? to move underwater with the same motion speed and gravity as you have out of water. This allowsfor speedy motion underwater, decreasing your likelihood of drowning, as you move a ton faster.
Trampoline
( = Elastic)
Basically a bouncier rubber block. When bouncing on it, you will be able to jump up 5 blocks instead of a rubber block's height of 2. When placed on the side of a block, it will appear on a diaconal, making a slanted trampoline, which will propell you up and in the opposite direction of the slant.
I will post more as they come to me, but until then keep giving comments, suggestions, or general rage.
That's awesome! But you forgot one thing...wheels. Using rubber and iron in this correct order...you will create this:
And this would create two (2) wheels. But what if this would be used for an engine and wheels for car (the tire in the steam engine will turn another wheel and create revolutions)? And more? :tongue.gif:
...Natural rubber comes from the sap of the rubber tree...
So this means Mojang will have to add a lot of new things in their full Minecraft game. What?
You don't believe me? :ohmy.gif: Take it from this site.
It specifically states that the FULL Minecraft game will come in the month of November this year. So, you better send those suggestions to Mojang. Cheers! :biggrin.gif:
There's some good ideas here (and some not so good ones) but that is a much better, fleshed-out thread, and it really deserves to be the one stop shop for all rubber ideas.
Oh, cool, didnt know there were any other rubber threads. I'll go post this there then.
I like the idea. But how whould we get the rubber itself? Dosen't it come from tree sap? I mean, how whould you use the logs to craft rubber from their sap? It's not like it whould be a random drop like sponges...
