I've been gone a while, and this thread seems to be coming along nicely. I was wondering, if anyone here has an ATI card, what are their experiences with forcing AA?

I just took a look on a number of different settings (On ATI Radeon HD 6900 series). It doesn't blend together well at all because each block is a separate object. You get very obvious, visible lines, especially looking at far away objects. I think quite a bit of rewriting the rendering engine would be needed to make this work.

I'm not an expert on this, but you don't want the entire game to be anti aliased, right? Because this is what happens when I force anti aliasing on my video card settings (I'm sure you've gotten this kind of post before, but oh well.)
This is what it looks like when you FORCE anti-aliasing. This is not how anti-aliasing would actually look if it was inserted into vanilla minecraft.
I think there was a mod that did anti-aliasing (glsl), but it's not up-to-date anymore.
The difference is huge, as huge as smooth lighting. And I don't want to remember pre-smoothlighting times. PLUS, it's client side only! it affects rendering only, not data transfer, so IT WON'T CAUSE LAG.
but it will cause lag in single player games, as it is client side
I would like this because I am a ***** for anything that boosts graphics.
Minecraft is one of those few games that aren't played because they have good graphics or for the story. It is the only game that is Sandbox that literally has now limitations! Build a house, explore a cave, get a pet wolf. You can do it all in Minecraft despite its under average graphics.

Yes. If you want "awesome grapics liek crysiz and call off duti blak opss" use the photo realism texture pack and the glsl shaders for it.
well, edge AA LOOKS AMAZING on minecraft, but the texture smoothing is not good for minecraft. support, as a option like any game, or else my minecraft would be unplayable on my crappy intel HD. also, this will make minecraft look less jaggy on distant things. this will not ruin the minecraft feel, just remove that jaggy effect.

Every graphical thing in Minecraft should be optional, no worries.
I think it would be great to have this as an option. Like you said many other games have this but why not minecraft. It does make minecraft look better and I support it!
+Support as an option
It's in Optifine and some mods, but eh, It'd be nice to have. (I use CCC for this). Of course, as an option in settings. You need a good video card to run high levels of AA. (I'd do just fine, but others, who knows).
