I looked all over the minecraft forums and for magic all I could find was altars and runes. When I looked on minepedia it said notch stated that redstone could have alchemical or magical properties. I joked about the design with my friends so I decided to make a post. The staff could look like this. Melee doesn't count as a use

E=empty
S=stick
T=thing(stone, ingot, etc.
Wood= Makes a 4x5 wood house with crafting bench, chest, 2 glass and door. Has 5 uses. Melee is powerful as wooden sword.
Cobb stone= launches a rock that does 7/8 of a damage of an arrow but knocks mobs farther back. 100 uses. Melee is as powerful as stone sword.
Iron= Launches shards of metal does 1.5x damage as much as arrow. 150 uses.
Gold= Shines light around you and turns a 5x5 area into a lit place. Will catch skeletons and zombie on fire. 30 uses.
Diamond= Freezes enemies for 10 seconds, making them move as they were on soul sand. Does 2x damage as much as an arrow. 800 uses Melee is like diamond sword.
Feather= Knocks mobs back constantly with only 1 heart dealt with every 5 seconds. Can force back for 1500 seconds.
Sulphur= Launches ghast fireballs. 25 uses. Melee does 1 heart.
Obsidian= Holding makes you take small explosive damage. Melee is better than iron, but not as much as diamond.
Bone= Spawns 4 skeletons to fight for you. It attacts wolves to you. If right clicked on crops, they will grow. Melee is like stone sword. 15 uses. Only 4 skeletons can fight for you at one time.
Glowstone= Handheld torch.
Sugar cane= Slowly restores your health and boosts your walking speed. Lasts forever. Right clicking will restore people's health around you. Does fist damage.
String= Does iron sword damage. A never degrading fishing rod that can't fish.
Ink sac= Darkens the hit players vision. Does 1/2 a heart and does wooden sword damage. 20 uses.
Mushroom= Does iron sword damage and poisons, losing 1 heart every 10 seconds lasts for 1 minute. 100 poisons.
Netherrack= Launches fireballs that spread fire in a 3x3 radius. 80 uses.
Pumpkin/Jack o lantern= Restores health and makes passive mobs run away and stops you from being attacked by hostiles for 10 seconds before being targeted. Lasts forever. Does iron sword damage. Attacking mobs while mobs arent attacking you makes them retaliate.
Crafting table= Creates a menu of a crafting table. Lasts forever. Fist damage.
Chest= Portable chest that you can open anytime you want without having to place one. Lasts forever. Fist damage.
Cactus= Lauches spikes that do not knock back. Does half the damage of arrows. 250 uses. Wooden sword damage. Melee counts as use.
Apple= Restores health fast and draws passive mobs toward you. Iron sword damage. Lasts forever.
So unbelievably overpowered it's not even funny. By day 2 I can make 90% of those, and from there the world has fallen to my awesome power.
Also, your damage is all screwy and back and forth. Sometimes you use things like "half a heart" (which is good) and then you use crazy things like "7/8 of an arrows damage" (which is screwy). We need exact numbers for uses because right now it makes no sense.

I dont usually get a chance to test the damage that everything does so if anyone makes a mod for this they can add any kind of modifications that they think that would makes this not overpowered.

I barely got a chance to think about this and I don't know how to make mods yet so I can't see what these can do. I thought about them being overpowered but I just had to make an idea that other people could branch from. If you can make these in a short time, good for you. I'm open to suggestions. Besides, this is the only forum topic that mentions "magic staff concept" in the name.
Now that this topic got up from 2 views to 40 something in a day, I have a feeling that someone would copy this. That's great! Now i am sure that I am thinking like many other people. I hope a mod for this comes out, or I get a few replies. (Not saying I'm an attention *****) I just want to hear what others are saying. After all, great minds think alike.
