Now that we have maps, I was thinking of something similar in the way of crafting notes. The notes would be able to be viewed in the same way that maps are viewed.
To craft a note, you would do the same as a map but instead of a compass in the middle, you would use charcoal. (charcoal like pencils have charcoal).
Notes would be very minecrafty.
Purposes:
- to leave clues for others on multiplayer.
- for creating a "to do" list in your world.
Edit: Before all of you start mentioning that you can leave clues with signs. I'm aware of this. You can't take signs with you and you're limited to four lines of text. It's very basic.
This way you can leave more detail (and can take it with you!)
Although this has been suggested before this is well done. Congrats. Also, I would simplify this greatly:
One piece of paper plus charcoal should make a Note. Why would I need to waste 8 pieces of paper on one Note? It's not like I'm making Diamond Pickaxes or anything.
Also, can we combine 9 Notes into a 9 page book? The order you put the Notes in the crafting grid (top to bottom, left to right) would determine page order.

im gonna twitter this idea to notch. it sounds realy cool.
Please... don't. Ideas need about 30 pages of support before it is fleshed out enough to be worth it. Also, Notch checks GetSatisfaction for ideas.

One piece of paper is enough. For actually writing it, feather + ink will do to make a quill. Craft the finished note with an arrow and you should be able to send said note flying for long-range communications.

But i wont troll you becos having notes that can be viewed as we can see maps would come in handy sometimes.
