In Minecraft, areas like lakes and oceans are basically unexplorable. They're dark, you can't stay underneath without drowning, and overall, it sucks to be in those areas.
But what if that was changed? What if you could make lanterns (crafting recipe: a torch in a box of glass) that can be underwater and light the way?
We would also need oxygen masks. They wouldn't be futuristic, maybe a little bit futuristic for minecraft but it would be awesome to have them. Basically, an oxygen mask would be worn like a helmet, and it would allow you to spend an infinite time underwater without drowning.
Recipe for an oxygen mask:
3 blocks of glass
3 blocks of glass
3 blocks of iron
Another thing: when you're underwater, it takes longer to destroy dirt, sand, etc. WHY? That ought to be changed. If we could spend time underwater and make cool underwater bases, we shouldn't need to take so long just to mine some dirt.
Harpoons could be added; they'd be like a bow and arrow that works at normal speed underwater. They would be thrown when right clicked with, but rather than needing a harpoon launcher, all you need is a harpoon. If a harpoon is thrown on the surface, it will have a very low arc and be hard to throw and use as a weapon.
Also, CORAL. :wink.gif: Only found on the bottom of large water bodies, usable for some epic purpose, perhaps as an armour or material for weaponry, or just for decoration, who knows :biggrin.gif:
The reason that you destroy things slower underwater is because, basically, have you ever tried destroying something underwater? The water pressure slows you down.
The harpoon idea is original though, but at the moment there is very little reason to use it at the moment, as there are no water mobs, besides squids, which I think you can deal with without a harpoon.
Well, if you want underwater lighting, just use Jack-o-lanterns. They do just what you said up there, and the crafting recipe's quite similar.
One problem with the Jack-o-lanterns is that they needs to be placed somewhere, this means you either need to dive blindly into the darkness until you find the bottom, or making a light trail from the shore, or making a inverted tower from the surface and down into the ocean.
But I guess this could be solved with sinking Jack-o-lanterns, just place them on water and they will sink straight down and attach them self on the first solid block on z-axis.

The helmet is original, but there is already a mod that does that. //www.minecraftforum.net/topic/113054-15-01nandonalts-mods-coraltreesmore-fixes/" target="" data-ensure-absolute>"]http://www.minecraft...eesmore-fixes/]

What would Coral do exactly, if it's just for atmosphere and dyes, there's actually a mod for that. http://www.minecraft...reesmore-fixes/
