OK, so I think what would make minecraft REALLY awesome would be...
...ELEMENTAL SWORDS AND ARROWS! :biggrin.gif:
Basically, if you use the right material, you'll make a different sort of weapon.
For example, for the fire sword/fire arrow, you would use netherrack in the recipe. The fire sword/fire arrow(s) would light anything they hit on fire, which includes MOBs and players.
For ice tools, Notch could make ice pickuppable when destroyed. Not creatable though, so that there is some sort of rarity. And, of course, ice would be used in the recipe. An ice sword/ice arrow would slow down as well as damage MOBs and players, and freeze water. If an ice sword/ice arrow hits a grass/dirt block and is lucky, snow will be created on top of the block.
We could have venom tools as well! If slimeballs are used in the recipe of a sword or arrow, the sword/arrow will not do very much damage, but will always poison the target. When the MOB (or character) is poisoned, he will be colourized green and lose health twice as quickly as you do when underwater; so it will die VERY QUICKLY. Luckily, slimeballs are rare.
:biggrin.gif: I'd LOVE to see this implemented in minecraft, who supports?
It's somewhat of a good idea. Are the extra ingredients in addition to the original items or in place of them? Because these seem kind of... really overpowered at the moment.

The different materials take the place of the standard ones (i.e. slimeballs/netherrock/ice in place of wood/stone/iron/gold/diamond.)
So instead of using 2 diamonds for a sword, you use 2 Netherrack? Wouldn't that be extremely overpowered as lighting the enemy on fire is a guaranteed kill unless they are near water? Maybe there would be a block that is able to infuse gold weapons with elemental properties.
