So the new mapping feature is great, but it is still incomplete.
When you craft a map you automatically start mapping in the center. This is fine if you want the map to just be of surrounding areas. If you want to make multiple maps to span a large area it will be very hard to find the center of the next map in order to decrease over lapping maps.
So what if the crafting recipe was tweaked a little. It would still be made of 8 paper but the location of the compass would determine the start location for the map, being center, top, bottom, left, right and the four corners as well.

I've actually came to an other probably better idea. When maps are crafted they do not automatically start mapping, instead you have to "use" them. When they are used you will, somehow, choose your start location and a name. That way there is no need for a complex crafting system.
