Well as the title says, this thread will be another zombie seige mode. I have looked at other ZSM idea's and ill be taking bits and peices that i thought were cool, and throwing my own bit in as well.
First off, since some players may or may not want ZSM, while others might want it to be part of the actual game, and not just a different mode. There should be some kind of way to turn it on and off, sort of like peaceful.To make sure that people don't wuss out in the middle of a seige, it can only be turned off in the options menu When one is not already in progress. The event would start in the morning. The sun, instead of being its normal yellow color, will take on a different color (maybe green, Since Red seems over-used.) This shows that the comming night will be a zombie seige. When night comes, the moon will be red. Nights will last anywhere from 15-25 minutes, depending on what difficulty you play in. Zombie seige can be turned of during the odd colored sun, but as said before, as soon as the moon comes up, your stuck with it 'till it ends. During the Seige, zombies will drop special items, that will make your troubles worth it. (not sure what exactly yet.)
(If ZSM were to be a seperate mode all together, than then,the seige will happen every other night, so players can gather resourses.And the Zombie's will drop somthing nessisary to keep living.)
Depending on what difficulty you have on, zombie spawn rate, and abilities will change.
Easy:
Zombie spawn rate +100%
Breaks through blocks 6X slower than a Bare-handed human
Zombie speed +10%
Zombie attake: same
Zombie Distance detection(how close they have to be to "see" you":+5 blocks
Zombie light detection(explained later): 16 blocks.
Zombie HP: same
Night lasts 15 minutes
Z.O Drop rate: 10%(Explained later.)
Z.O Meter:3 days, +3 orbs per round.
Medium:
Zombie spawn rate +200%
Breaks through blocks 4X slower than a bare-handed human.
Zombie speed +15%
Zombie attake: +5%
Zombie Distance detection:+15 blocks
Zombie light detection 32 blocks.
Zombie hp: +5 hearts.
Night lasts 20 minutes
Z.O Drop rate: 7%
Z.O Meter: 2 Day's, +5 orbs per round
Hard:
Zombie spawn rate +300%
Breaks through blocks 2X slower than a bare-handed human.
Zombie speed +20%
Zombie attake: +10%
Zombie Distance detection:+20 blocks
Zombie light detection: 64 blocks.
ZOmbie hp"+10 hearts.
Night lasts 25 minutes.
Z.O Drop: 5%
Z.O meter: 1 day, +7 per round
(All zombies, regardless of difficulty level, will have glowing red eye's, and more rotted skin)
Some of you may be wondering "what is zombie light detection?"Well, its a little thing i came up with, that basically make's zombies attracted to light, just as passive animals (sheep, pig's ect) are. This way, a zombies won't randomly wander around, and will be attracted to light souces,and zombies will be able to find player Fortresses. The more light coming from a set area, (say a 5X5 space) the more attracted they will be to that spot. this way, players can't just place tourches to confuse zombies. (or at least not as easly.)Zombie detection works in all directions, including up and down. making underground hide outs, unfavorable, since zombies above you will dig down until they drop from above and tear you limb from limb.
This is all i have so far. Please comment on what you think.

This however, might be to difficult to obtain since you will, for the most part, be fighting off zombies. So suggestions for this are welcome.
Because this should'nt be the same type ofzombie attaking you. i think there should be some variety, but not to much, so it doesnt get obnoxious.
what i have so far is:
1: Your avrage zombie. Its basically the same zombie you see in minecraft, but with the added power-up's given depending on the difficulty level.
2: zombie general. On top of the already added bonuses from difficulty,he gets a few perks.
Only spawns on medium or hard difficulty.
+3 hearts on medium, +5 hearts on hard.
+5% attack on both difficulties.
normal zombies spawn rate increases by 50% around him.
boosts zombie speed +5% and attake by +1 heart when zombies are with in 7 blocks of him.
(as you can see, he's more of a support role then an attaking role,as generals should be,and he isn't Over-powered. (At least I hope!)
Destruction Zombie.
Spawns on all difficulties.
-A zombie with Half as much health as a normal zombie on the same difficulty But:
He can destroy blocks 1.5X as fast as a normal zombie can, and can run slightly faster.
When around a General zombie, Along with the added bonuses they already get from him, They can also break blocks 2X as fast as Normal zombies. on the same difficulty level.
If this will be a different mode all together, The zombies should drop Somthing that will become nessisary to live. Let's, for this exaple, call it a Zombie orb(Z.O).I suggest that there be a Different bar below your health bar. this bar would go down slowly, and refills a little bit with every Z.O you collect. Zombies will drop a zombie orb's . Picking up A zombie orb will restore you'r Z.O meter A little bit.
When it is full it means that you will not need to gather any more orbs for a set amount of time depending on the level your playing. When it drops to 0 you die.(Weird, but skippable backstory ahead: The poisonous gasous in the air cause you to transform into a zombie. The Z.O orbs are White blood-cells that managed to survive the infection, and have the anti-bodies to defend agenst it. Because your body can only make the anti-bodies after you become infected, and they don't last forever, you must continuouslt collect them to survive.)
There is a small Zombie Seige occurence, at night sometimes Zombies attack NPC villages. But I like the ideas that the zombies would be differant, you would get notification, so on so on.
What if, along the way, the zombies ran into a lava lake aboveground? Wouldn't they all go there? And if no other hostile mobs spawned, couldn't you just light your house with redstone torches to deter the zobmies, or not light it at all? Other than that, great idea.
