Just some small things that could be added to the current weather system to make it a little more realistic:
Rain and Storms
-When rain hits exposed redstone wire (any block where the rain can fall) there should be a chance of it malfunctioning (flicker on/off quickly regardless of previous state) for the duration of the rain/storm. This does NOT mean the redstone wire becomes useless if rain touches it, it just won't work when wet and will dry off in the sun.
-Certain kinds of blocks should be more prone to be hit by a lightning during a storm. More precise, those blocks could be the metalic ore blocks (Iron Ore Block, Gold Ore Block and maybe Diamond Ore Block) allowing the player to build Lightning Rods
-If a Lightning hits a redstone wire or a block adjacent to it, it should power it just like a Stone Button and the electric flow should overrride rain malfunctionings and (possibly) Redstone Repeaters.
Snow and Blizzards
-During snowfalls and blizzards, the Ice blocks would become extra slippery.
-Blizzards should slightly push the player to any given direction, either slowing or speeding the walking speed (depends on direction of wind).
For Desert Biomes: Sandstorms and Heavy Sandstorms
-Sandstorms would be like the Blizzards, they would slightly push the player around.
-Heavy Sandstorms would be (obviously) stronger sandstorms. They would strongly push the player around according to the direction of the wind (the wind would change direction faster than blizzards or sandstorms) and the vision range would be heavily lowered, making deserts the most dangerous places to be during a storm.
I really like the sandstorm idea.
The redstone rain thing seems like too much, but it's possible.
I think weather should affect you and your surroundings even more.
Peaceful mobs might move towards caves or areas without rain.
But that would lead to more cows in your house...
I always felt like the desert biomes were lacking something during the rains... It's funny to walk from a place with a hurricane-like storm to a place completely dry and lightning free just by walking 2 or 3 blocks.
And I don't think the redstone flicker and lightning power source are that hard to code. The malfunction flicker is already implemented on Redstone Torches (make a loop and it will flicker and burn out) and the lightning thing is all about impact site, area of effect and luck...
Closest thing I've seen on the APT Thread was this: Seasons and Weather which is 11 months old.
And yes, Sandstorms may have been suggested before, it is something easy to think and probably has been suggested before. Blizzards and Sandstorms pushing players? Yes, probably has been said once or twice before on some weather related threads on the forum... Redstone Malfunctioning due to rain? I highly doubt anyone has said that before.
As I said on some other suggestion I made earlier, I haven't read all the posts on this forum (nor am I interested in doing so) and posts beyond the Board Page 5 are pretty much lost in the Void. And yes, I know the search button is there for a reason, but it's not like EVERYONE searches for EVERY-SINGLE-IDEA they may have before posting anything or else this board would have several hundreds threads gone.
Wow... that was harsh. You should try harder at searching, because I know that one weather topic lasted a long time, along with one specifying tornadoes, others on sandstorms, meteors and so forth.
Not everyone posts there idea so no they don't search but it isn't difficult to search for those ideas. From what I understand you can bump old threads IF you have more information to add that will benefit the suggestion
@themohawkninja: Yes, I know I'm harsh. I get flamed up real quickly and I'm trying my best to behave and not start the flame war. It's one of my many flaws...
@zepprith: You clearly didn't read my post, didn't you?
Here, let me highlight the parts that I want you to see and understand:

Oh, bumping old threads? Why didn't I think of that before? *sarcastic laugh* It's called Necro-ing and it's like forum cancer.
Bump Threads - Do not bump your own threads to get more replies or older threads that have dropped off unless there is significant new information to add. Necrothreadia is preventable disease: let the dead lie.
So your saying your idea has no new information that is significant. Then don't suggested it. Also if you plan on posting something you are basically meant to use the search feature the page numbers MEAN NOTHING the last thing on page five was posted TODAY.

... I've read that last paragraph and I still can't understand your point...
Bumping dead threads? There's a thin line between Necrothredia and "adding significant new information" and I don't consider "Oh, look I have a new random idea that everyone will ignore" worth enough to bring back a 2 week+ old thread that everyone had forgotten about.
And I'm not saying that my idea has 100% original content because that is impossible (especially on large forums like this one) nor I am saying that my ideas are just a plain copy of someone elses suggestion. It's impossible to post a 100% original suggestion on this place because chances are that someone else thought of it before. I'm not even saying that my suggestion is a must have thing that will ruin the game if it isn't implemented because statistics say that this post WILL die and be ignored until someone else posts something similar. And the whole "beyond page 5" thing is just an expression that means that the average forum user isn't interested on posts beyond page 3-5-10.
And, for the third time, it's not like I'm the only effing person on the forum doing this, I seriously dare you to go and read every post here and start arguing with everyone on whether their ideas are original or not.
Finally, if your next reply has nothing to do with my suggestion and/or the implications that it would have if it were implemented by Notch, please don't post anything at all. I'm trying to keep this flame-free and on topic but fighting is my drug and I can't seem to stop it

Thank you for the comment, try harder next time.
