This is something you would use to surround your house (not completely) to protect yourself from mobs.
No matter what, the mob would die (a 1-hit kill)
But it would give you a much smaller chance of dropping things, and a 0% chance for gunpowder to drop.
It would be made like this: = pressure plate
If any mob (including you) steps on the mine or on the block on top of the mine, it detonates.
The explosive radius would look like this. = mine

Now I know that I am probably going to get a lot of criticism for posting this, but I

Just dig a hole, put TNT at the top (ground level), and put a pressure plate on top of the TNT. The TNT activates, becomes affected by gravity, falls, whoever triggered the pressure plate falls, and then BOOM, dead. Problem solved.

The explosion would destroy a lot more (possibly your base) and you can see a pressure plate.

Fill the bottom of the hole with water and nothing is destroyed. And just have the pressure plates hidden on a floor with the same material the pressure plates are made of (smoothstone or wood) and they're almost impossible to see. Also, you said this was for mobs, and they won't see it.

I think you can also have a sand or gravel block between the pressure plate and the TNT and it will still trigger. It might be a little less obvious than the red TNT visible from around the pressure plate.

Yes, pressure plates can send power to the blocks its placed or the block under the block its place on.
Sand and gravel very useful for pressure plates as when the TNT is activated and becomes an 'entity,' the sand/gravel falls down, causing a trapdoor for the player to fall to the TNT

Place a water source under the TNT, as water causes TNT to lose its structural damage, but still causes damage.
It will be harder to see the pressure plate if you had a stone/wood floor, or having the area too dark for people to spot the trap.
