I agree with you that minecraft is a bit too easy. At first its kind of hard surviving the first night, but eventually once you have a good base and defense system up, nothing can get in.
I like your ideas of daytime enemy MOBs, but as long as they don't spawn that often/only on grass.
However though, I do not EVER, EVER, EVER want torches to go out. You could lose an entire ****ing mine that way.
Also, you should NOT need diamonds to make a bed. Thats idiotic! :blink.gif:
See my thread called "Making minecraft challenging".
muncher that logic is flawed as can be. As I said before, I like survival and combat, but I don't like the ridicolous **** being suggested here. So I should have to play on boring old peaceful mode because I don't like OP ****? No thanks.
Since biomes were released, Minecraft's difficulty has swung way down. The Beta map generator makes coal appear on the surface a lot more, and beds don't help either. Surviving the first night is terribly easy. Creepers aren't much of a threat at all, zombies are just stupid, spiders don't really care, and skeletons are the only real enemy. Too bad they burn as the sun comes up, and most new players will rarely see them (thanks to beds).
When are those torches going to go out? Here are my suggestions:
-Lanterns are made out of glowstone blocks, so only people far in the game can obtain them.
-Zombies can break down doors, but it takes a really long lime (like a whole night) and can't break iron doors
-Creepers move faster
-Trees are sparse and forest biomes aren't as common.
-Add a hostile daytime mob, like a goblin or something.
-Beds need more resources to make. (1 diamond sounds reasonable)
Anyways, thanks for reading my rant. Please post real comments stating your opinion, I don't care for a 5 word replies.
if you think that it is too easy turn the difficulty on hard and go through the 404 gravel cave with no items.
Yeah, make a mod.
Minecraft is NOT too easy. In fact, it's difficult as-is. Adding the stuff in the OP would make for a hardcore-player-only game. And that's not proper.
It's not that the game is too easy, its that you are too good at the game.
Nothing needs to be changed to make it harder for you. Try giving yourself rules or limits to what you are allowed to do. That increases difficulty a lot, depending on what your rules are. Try Amnesia mode: You can't fight attack/defend yourself from mobs.
One thing I can surely agree with is the implementation of the bed, it completely ruined Minecraft's challenging and survival gameplay; as they are fairly easy to build, if you didn't want to have to stay inside your house through the night, then you could simply turn on "Peaceful" and to be honest "Peaceful" mode was enough.
Now with the bed, everything is as easy as pie, you go knock some 50 trees, yay it is night and you just kill like 2 sheeps, with the wood you got, workbench and some wool. BOOM! You got a bed, put on Peaceful and sleep a whole 10 minute. Now, the bed can be obviously useful sometimes; like when you're in a hurry of building something, or if you don't want the hassle of having to deal with light (fair excuses, though).
And to be on topic with the main title, well... Minecraft has a fair amount of difficulty, you have unending amounts of explosive green dicks or commonly known as "creepers", 7 hearts, the killing vertigo feeling, the possibility of mining down into a lava pit, oh and lava, lava is so dangerous, unless you have an edited armor nothing can you save you from lava; that isn't lava.
I suggest playing more Minecraft, doing things without cheating, making huge structures all by yourself, and for the bed: forget there is a bed! like me!
Also a sandbox game definition is "An open world is a type of video game level design concept where a player can freely roam a virtual world and change any factor at will"
Minecraft is not a sandbox game as you can not change anything at will and do not have unrestricted abilities.
Wait, wait, wait. "you can not change anything at will" so you can't change how low your health is, how low a monster's health is, how bright of light there is in an area, WHAT THE WORLD LOOKS LIKE? You, sir or madam, do not know what Minecraft consists of. Also, it never said that you do not have unrestricted abilities. It CLEARLY STATED that it is "An open world is a type of video game level design concept where a player can freely roam a virtual world and change any factor at will," not that you have "unrestricted abilities". Therefore, it may not be a sandbox game by YOUR definitions, but you go and assume that you have "unresticted abilities" if it is a sandbox game. Note, I am not calling you a "self-righteus ass" or an arrogant *****, I am simply stating what is clearly shown in these forums.

Ladies and gentlemen, Hell has frozen over, and Satan is putting on ice skating shows for charity.
I have read in the wiki about a Hardcore mode or something like that.
For me the game is hard , i only play it on Peaceful or easy so far , xD I only put it in easy if i want to get some things like string or bones , or gunpowder , if i dont need those things i just play it in peaceful because i hate those mobs so much...
The first night is not easy , i remember my first night in minecraft , i was building a house ( with dirt... ) at night i was like ****! , but i think i can survive... , a creeper came out of nowhere , kill me and destroyed my (dirt) house , that was almost finished.
After that i readed the minecraft wiki , so i can make bed and all that crap.
I think the game is normal , i mean it is sandbox , you have until the night to build what you want , it makes you think about that while you are building , something like : Oh ****! Oh **** mobs will spawn OH ****!.
No, zombies slowly breaking through doors is a great idea. It wouldn't even be that hard unless you weren't paying attention. You can just whack the zombies away through he door. It would add little difficulty.
And remember, It wouldn't effect peaceful because no mobs exist on peaceful.
So everyone wins.
Yes! Finally a comment on this page THAT MAKES SENSE! for you!

At least the addition of weather added some extra challenge to the game. The other day I was working in the Nether. I decided to warp back to the overworld, and I see that it's raining, and that I can't get to where I need to go because there are tons of zombies and skellies running around.
Realism will add significantly to the challenge. Imagine if your health goes down by 4 hearts per day (from hunger), such that you have to eat 1 cooked ham or 3 uncooked hams. Imagine torches burn out in the rain or simply after a few days (requiring you to find lava ASAP!) This sort of stuff might not seem like a big deal where you probably are in your game right now, but it will make a difference when you are getting started those first few days.
Muncher21, though a bit rash, you are right. Pretty much all of the posts I read from you are right.
Peaceful will always be peaceful. Don't want mobs? Choose me!
As for the other ones, they have a sort of difficulty that isn't as entertaining. I want a harder game, but making it so that I get one-shot killed it not a fun sort of hard, it's an asinine sort of hard. Self-imposed challenges = Stupid. A fun challenge is one that you are given real rules that you have to try and work around. Easy should stay the way it is. Normal should be bumped up. Hard should be exactly that, HARD.
Beds are an interesting matter. No doubt they make the game easy, though. Your spawn point is now inside your cozy house. You never have to worry about losing your stuff if you are cautious because if you were in your mineshaft it's connected to your house, or near it, and you can get there and pick up your stuff because there was only one or two more baddies that had to be dealt with. You died outside in the night? Nothing can keep up with you other than a persistent spider that is easy enough to lose. Run out, get stuff, gtf inside.
If you don't think Minecraft should be harder, that's fine. But look, there will always be two modes for you. Easy and peaceful. Hard isn't hard, so let's make it hard. Normal isn't really that much harder than easy, so let's bump that up too! Done and done.
The problem here is that everyone is ignoring the people who like SURVIVAL but not STUPID ****. Peaceful is boring. Classic is mind-wrenchingly boring. Yet the stuff suggested here is just crazy. Normal is fine as is. Peaceful needs some kind of lock so you can only play on peaceful if you generate a special peaceful map. (To prevent people from cheaping out and setting it to peaceful to get away with ****.) If you want hard to be harder, go ahead. However, even on hard I garuntee Notch will never add stupid ridicolous **** like this. "Diamond bed" "Glowstone lanterns".

Also, a gamemode called Zombie Seige is going to be put into Minecraft. Look at Minecraft Wiki for more details.
