Deep underground in minecraft, there's ores, stone, lava... but why not little pools of oil?
Oil would be a brown liquid that behaves just like water, except slightly slower moving. It would be found deep underground in pools like how the lava is found, but it won't be found naturally flowing. It would catch fire, and when you're in oil, you would move at half the speed you move at when underwater. You can still drown in it, and when you put it into a smelter, it works as a fuel thats 4 as efficient as coal. A nice way to use oil would be while defending a castle, you could pour down a bucket of oil onto some enemies and then light the oil, burning the enemies.
When oil is used in a smelter, it will last 4 times as long as 1 piece of coal, but when it is burned and outside of the bucket, it will burn faster than coal.
Oxygen masks. Now, an oxygen mask is something I REALLY want added to minecraft. How they would work is they would let you breathe for an infinite time when underwater (or under oil, but swimming in oil wouldn't be a smart idea. :tongue.gif: )
The recipe for an oxygen mask would go like this:
(leather) (leather) (leather)
(leather) (leather)
(leather) (ink sac) (leather)
The ink sac is where the air is stored, (the ink sac was emptied) and the glass is the visor. :wink.gif: Wearing an oxygen mask is the same as wearing a helmet, and if you're wearing an oxygen mask, you cannot wear a helmet as well. The oxygen mask will NOT provide any sort of defense to the player (except being able to stay underwater) but it will be possible to break it (if the player is hurt.)
Backpacks. Now, this is something that is very important! :wink.gif: If you have a backpack in your inventory, then you will see a backpack on your character's body, and your carried around inventory will be doubled. I don't understand why Notch hasn't thought of this and is instead making a map tool for minecraft :sad.gif:

You know what's funny, before I could mod I thought of all of these ideas right to the recipes. Now that I'm an experienced modder I might try making the backpack and oil (which I've already started on but failed :tongue.gif:)

Woah woah woah, guy, I think your the one who should leave. This person has valid input for a suggestion, whether it has been suggested or not already. I get real tired of people like you on this forum.
I'm not going to put in more effort to search for an already existing topic. Besides, I thought necrobumping was frowned upon in forums...?
I'd be using mods, but minecraft seems to not work with mods, and in my opinion these are 3 things that minecraft really really needs. The oil, not so much, but the air masks and backpacks, YES.
