I played Roblox once upon a time, and I always loved the user-made modes the best. One type in particular stuck in my head: The "apocalypse" catagory. In this 'mode' players would build things to avoid certain doom. These games kept a multitude of players in a relatively small area, a zone where they were forced to work with each other to build shelter, after which, the "apocalypse" would happen.
The event varied from server to server (floods, disappearing floors, dropping bombs, zombie attack, even pumpkin monster assault). My thoughts were something like this: if we transplanted this mode into Minecraft and added a points system for surviving longer than others, it could potentially do any of a number of things. For example, the mode might attract the griefing sort away from other, more productive servers to a place where actively trying to get other people killed is acceptable. The mode might also collect up a lot of people who like some quick fun and don't have time to invest on smp. Either way, the results would be appreciated by the community. That's just my thoughts. Feel free to cut this up, I just was interested in how folks might react to an apocalypse mode.
Oh my gosh! I remember this mode! It was fun but after a little while, it got kinda boring =/
I don't think it's worth it spending loads of time trying to implement this into Minecraft for just a couple of minutes. But I like the idea, gave me memories :smile.gif:
How would it destroy buildings? Just remove blocks that players have placed, or spawn something that would make structures vulnerable?
Perhaps it would gradually wear the blocks down or something of that nature. It really isn't up to me. If it's added later, then that's for someone else to decide anyways.
