This is an idea that hit me while I was bored at work the other day.
What if it was possible to combine the conductive properties of redstone with the light properties of glowstone? It would be lighting that can be turned on or off by redstone current and/or input devices.
For lack of a better term, I'll call this stuff "conductive glow" because it emits light with a current or input device is applied.
conductive glow dust:
This would be the basis for the "conductive glow" stuff to be built. One glowstone dust plus one redstone dust would yield two conductive glow dusts.
Conductive glow torch:
These would be torches crafted in a similar manner as redstone torches. That is, by placing one conductive glow dust above a stick. One stick plus one conductive glow dust would give you one conductive light torch. These torches would give off the same amount of light as a normal torch, but players would be able to turn them on or off with a redstone current. Conductive glow torches would act similar to redstone torches in that they default to their "on" state, and turn off when a current or other input is applied.
Conductive glowstone block:
This would be crafted by plaing nine conductive glow dusts on a 3x3 crafting grid. These would give off the same amount of light as a glowstone block. Like the conductive glow torches, they would turn off when a current or other input is applied. Personally, I never liked the fact that glowstone blocks only yield one dust when broken, so I would prefer if one conductive glowsonte block would give back all nine dusts when broken, but that's just me. Conductive glowstone blocks would also carry a current, so turning off one block would also turn off any conductive glowstone blocks that are touching it. Like all other things redstone, the 15 block rule applies.
Conductive glow Jack-O-lanterns:
Like normal Jack-O-lanterns, these would be crafted in a similar fashion. However, the coal torch is replaced by a conductive glow torch. These would give off the same light level as regular Jack-O-lanterns, but can be turned to their off state by applying a current and/or input device.
Honestly, if you could do a bit more work and put in some pixel art, this would be a perfect thread. A very good idea, well thought out. This would be a great way to connect redstone and light without having crappy redstone torches.

Support.
I've always wanted to have a light switch somewhere and turn on hundreds of lights.
This would be worth request some pixel art to increase interest.
