ANFO would work a lot like TNT currently does, the only change being that it doesn't create as large of a crater, but it will push objects around that are affected by gravity (lit TNT, for example). crafting it would require 5 fertilizer (made from a 2x2 square of bone meal) and 4 coal or charcoal arranged the same way the gunpowder and sand is for making TNT. so, to make one block of ANFO, you would need 5 fertilizer, which would be 20 bonemeal, which would then be about 7 bones, which can be gotten from killing about 7 skeletons, as opposed to the 5 or so creepers you would need to kill to get enough gunpowder for one block of TNT. since skeletons aren't as dangerous as crepers, it makes sense that you need to kill more skeletons than creepers.
this also opens the possibility of combining fertilizer and dirt for faster farming, but since farming with irrigation doesn't take that long, there isn't much point to it.
Question: what is ANFO? What does it mean? WHY IS IT MADE OF FERTILIZER?
I probably shouldv'e said that in the first post.
ANFO (ammonium nitrate-fuel oil) is a bomb made from the 2 things in its name. ammonium nitrate is commonly used in fertilizer, and the fuel oil is something that can set off the fertilizer. usually its some sort of fuel (oil, coal, ect.), but even sugar can be used.
obviously this is a little high-tech for the time period minecraft is in, but I might as well put it out there. I might make it into a mod, if i find the time to. or, if someone else wants to, they can.
The major problem that exists is that it is currently a redundant item. It would need some STRIKINGLY unique characteristic to differentiate it from TNT. A reason for a player to wish to use it in preference to TNT. Until you have that, you'll need to keep noodling on this.
how about when it explodes, the blocks near it aren't destroyed but pushed away. if there isn't anywhere for the block to be pushed into then it would break, but the items it drops wouldn't be destroyed.
