"Sapphire, The blue gem that is cold to the touch, Ruby, the red gem that burns brilliantly, and Emerald, the green gem with Nature's Essence.
With these Ores (or Gems as I will call them) the main idea isn't to use them for tools (You still can, they aren't very useful though)but to use their blocks for the special properties they have. They show up around the same levels as Diamond and have the same "vein size" or whatever it's called. However the are a bit more common then diamond but still pretty rare. They all require an Iron Pickaxe or better to mine and drop 1 gem for each ore
In Minecraft, Sapphire is a gem with the essence of Cold in in it. When a Sapphire block is placed, over time, every block in a 9x9 area gets snow on it. When water is exposed to a Sapphire block it freezes into an Ice Block, and when Lava is in a Sapphire blocks area it chills into Cobblestone or Obsidian as it would if water touched the lava. Sapphire is the most common of the Gems.
In Minecraft, Ruby is a gem with the power of Fire. A Ruby Block has a light level of 15 but don't try and use it in a chandelier, in the same amount of time as it takes a Sapphire Block to "chill" things, Ruby Blocks set it on fire, same to any mobs or unfortunate Minecrafters. A Ruby Block is also able to Evaporate water and melt Ice and Snow blocks. Ruby is the middle ground of rarity of the gems.
In Minecraft, Emerald has the power of nature inside of it. Everything plant based in an Emerald Blocks radius will grow at a faster rate. These plant based blocks include Grass, Wheat, Sugar Cane, Cactus, and Trees. Trees also have a higher chance of growing into a large tree when in a Emerald Block's radius. Passive Mobs are also attracted to Emerald Blocks, spawning at a faster rate in the radius and even spawning on blocks that are not grass. Emerald's rarity is beaten only by Diamond.
