The word "rejected" doesn't appear on that page, and at the top it says the status is "Not Planned" which to me sounds like nobody's looked at it, not that someone looked at it and said "no"

Forwarding ports is something that is required, unless Notch were to rewrite the entire server to authenticate through Minecraft.net's servers instead of through your server and such.
As well, there are various guides on how you can port forward which can be found simply by googling.

From what I've read of the replys to the topic, it's simpler the way we have it now. Trying to make it "easier" might cause different troubles with firewalls, which would be just as inconvenient.
Setting up a server is really not that hard. It just takes the willingness to look up how to port forward. You don't even have to port forward if you're just playing with people on the same router as the computer running the server (LAN play.)
