I've been playing Minecraft for a good long while now, but I always end up burning out at the moment I have a big daunting idea and no point in which to get started. To re-invigorate Minecraft and increase the possibilities of what you can do and what can be done, this is my list of improvements and additions.
1. A new game called Terraria recently came out and for two or so days it was addicting and fun for the sole purpose that there were hidden items to be discovered, collected and used to improve the gameplay experience. Once you found everything, the game fizzles out and you quit because it doesn't have what Minecraft does, 3D exploration, infinite resources, space and building. Sure you could build in terraria but what is the point when the game requires you to make new maps? Minecraft needs more things to discover, underground and above. As of right now there is just a dungeon with some chests filled with wheat, but how much more fun would mining be if there were all sorts of unique things to find? Skeleton bases, alters, hidden pirate treasure, different bioms under the ground such as other forms of cave structures and certainly discovering what appears to be pre-built homes, bridges, tunnels or anything that makes it feel like you've discovered something thats been there long before you. This brings me to number 2.
2. In these places of new discovery, you should be able to find rare items that boost, enhance or alter the way you interact with the world. Accessories that make you jump higher, stat boosters, magic (such as casting light to illuminate caves) new weapons and armor all of which can come with special attributes.
3. Diamond tools (or better with the inclusion of newer materials) do not ever break but they are much rarer to find. However you still can lose them.
4. A mass object move tool that will allow you to take something you've built and place it somewhere else. This will only work on blocks you have physically placed yourself so you can't cheat and dig through the earth with it.
5. Smaller blocks. 1/4 blocks, 1/2 blocks, giant blocks, thin blocks Cloth blocks which are very thin and allow light to diffuse though them and accent items you can place anywhere you want. These alone would increase your creative pool astronomically. Of course more items to decorate your home.
6. More realistic water. It can retain its blocky nature but It should behave more like water with the same speed and physics. There should be the addition of pumps to allow you to create waterfalls which when cascading will spray white mist into the air.
7. Weather should be more erratic and change frequently. Cloudy days, beamingly bright days, rainy days, foggy mornings, and atmospheric sounds such as chirping, crickets and so forth. When it is snowing, the atmosphere around you should reflect it with a thick fog.
8. A level up system whereby you become stronger, break blocks faster, move faster, swim faster, hold breath longer etc...
9. World events that occur randomly such as an enemy assault that comes after you. Hundreds of enemies after you and an improved battle system. I'm not talking Ninja Gaiden or anything, but make it fun to attack tons of enemies all at once. No creeper army attacks though because thats not fair to what you've built.
10. Boss monsters that drop rare loot, trophies to prove you beat it.
11. Items can be displayed, put on shelves or hung on walls.
12. Fire doesn't burn so quickly so you have the ability to put it out. Its not fair to have your whole house go up in an instant because of a little mistake.
13. Better lighting options then simply a torch or fire. There should be invisible blocks of light in many colors to fit the mood of your room or area without having a big ugly glow stone or a torch all over your wall.
So basically you want to merge minecraft and terraria?
Terraria ideas won't work for the sole purpose minecraft is more...... umm....
minecraft is more like you're banging rocks together, terraria is like you're inventing rockets.
my point is minecraft is more 1700's style and terraria is more futuristic with space guns and what not.....
just to let you know, i have terraria and love it, i'm not the type to think its a minecraft rip off.
Alright, Let me get this started that I read that all, and I'm ready to provide a really long response to each one, so here we go... [edit] I have never played Terraria and don't plan to, so all the people above talking about 3d terraria, I have no idea what you're talking about.
1: I completely and totaly agree. Like huge tombs found deep underground that have some mummy scythe that has the light casting ability you mention later.
2: ^^
3: I think this would be practically game ending however very useful when making large structures. Dunno about this one.
4: How could this work in-game? Sort of like MCedit or Cuboid? I could see this being a HUGE obstacle in coding.
5: Probably already a suggestion topic for these, but I still completely agree.
6: There's mod for this somewhere...
7: I actually agree with this. However, the fog thing in the mornings may be a big problem becuase you can change it your self :tongue.gif:
8: No, simply no. this would end minecraft for me if this is added.
9: I agree with this, however more though and development would be nice.
10: I agree, just like the battle tower mod.
11: Risugami's Shelf Mod [leaving out 12 because i have nothing to say to it]
13: I agree, like being able to dye torches, though not so stupid-sounding.
I began writing this when there were no posts on this thread.
Here's a review of this suggestion, as it has a lot of content.
certainly discovering what appears to be pre-built homes, bridges, tunnels or anything that makes it feel like you've discovered something thats been there long before you.
Although I generally liked a lot of (1), this bothered me and will outthrow a lot of people ont he forums. They do not want traces of old people in their world. I am open to the idea of human NPCs in some way, but not this. I do adore the underground biome.

Accessories that make you jump higher, stat boosters, magic (such as casting light to illuminate caves) new weapons and armor all of which can come with special attributes.
Eh... too close to terraria (As you were going for) and not worth adding. Thinks like this make good mods, but not additions to the game.

No. It doesn't matter how hard it is to find, this is not worth adding and over powered. Finding a tool that will almost entirely eliminate the crafting of more tools in any sense is a limiting addition.
Suggested before, but your right in my opinion. A bit too generic, but I could sacrifice a bit of uniquity of the blocks for this.

I agree. Mabye some of the combinations more random, but sure.
A level up system whereby you become stronger, break blocks faster, move faster, swim faster, hold breath longer etc...
I am now sure that a majority of the forum hates you for suggesting this. I strongly disagree, minecraft is not an RPG and should not resemble one to the point of any leveling system.

Kind of a mod for this, and yes.
Overall review: most of the good ideas there are threads for, and some of it is a bit too much of a stretch for minecraft. Nothing origonal for minecraft. The only thing I thought was the most origonal and interesting was the underground biomes.
I will only reply to the water thing since I don't have the time to reply to everything. This one bothered me, even more so than adding prebuilt houses. The current water physics of Minecraft has given players so much possibility to create mechanical devices from the building blocks the game gives you. Mob traps, elevators, cannons, water activated redstone devices, water timers, incredibly efficient modes of transportation(EATS) and SO much more. All player invented, and player built, not player CRAFTED. The addition of water that levels out like in Terraria would break all these devices, and incredibly limit the possibilities for player invented, not programmer invented, mechanical devices. Can you imagine trying to create what we can create now with realistic water? Sure, the addition of pumps would allow for neat waterfalls, and possibly new modes of transportation, but the current water physics have so much more possibilities that I can see.

No. You're being purposely ignorant, and a smartass.
12. Fire doesn't burn so quickly so you have the ability to put it out. Its not fair to have your whole house go up in an instant because of a little mistake.
Ok I am fine with prebuilt homes if they are like ruins or something destroyed. They can't be just premade homes that would sort of take out the survival aspect. I don't think ruins would take away much from the survival mode since they would be like caves in a way. As everyone said before this is not a rpg so no levels or stat boosters. No tools in minecraft should last for ever. I think water is fine. The mass object move tool would be cool but also would take away feel from minecraft. There is probably a program where you can move objects. The rest can be for mods.
