The facer block is a block who's top half turns to face the nearest mob or player when powered by redstone. It has a 5 block range. It is crafted like this:
The mushroom is Redstone
Blocks placed on top will also turn toward the player. Said block can also be powered with Redstone in this fashion:
is Facer is Redstone
Also note: If there are any blocks of the same type connected to the one on top of the facer, they will also move as well. Any mob, players or TNT getting hit in this manner will deal damage and incur serious knockback. When Redstone is connected to the top end of the facer and powered, any Redstone Mechanisms on the system are treated as powered.
Assuming pistons and a grabbing mechanism is implemented, you can make a tower crane for your big projects, or play Creeper Baseball with your friends!
I was about to post that this useless, but then I realized the genius of putting dispenser on top of it full of arrows, stop on a pressure plate with Redstone leading towards it thinking your safe because it is turned away from you when suddenly it turns toward you and shoots an arrow at you knocking you into a lava pit.

The Texture Pack you may or may not like is just a button click away, Murder's Pack

I think you misunderstood something: a powered Facer will face you when you get within 5 blocks.
I'll edit the OP with that point

I made some changes to the OP. Now, any blocks of the same type (or Redstone Mechanisms) attached to the block on top of the facer are treated as a single entity.

*goes into cave*
*places facer right below the cave ceiling*
*places redstone torch next to facer*
?????
*Farlands... Farlands Everywhere*
Anyways, outside of the "turret" idea mentioned previously, I can't think of any real reason for this.
Oh, it's unique, that's why it's actually getting a post from me. But I can't see why on earth I, or anyone else, would want to use it.

Its unique I will give you that, but it really isn't a very good idea
