When I want to place a certain size of art I surround the area with blocks so only art of that size or smaller can be placed. I'm sure others do the same. This got me thinking how much easier it would be if a completely blank wall always received the largest art possible for the walls size and to place smaller art you had to place blocks to determine the size of the painting. This might seem harder as smaller art would either require smaller walls or being surrounded while placing but how often have you wanted to place a large painting and gone through countless placings only to have smaller paintings appear instead? How much simpler to know that only the exact size painting you require will be placed leaving you only to cycle through a small number of art to get the one you want? Besides you probably already place blocks to restrict the size of art when you want to place a smaller painting anyway as it saves time and hassle. Anyone else out there like to have art placing changed to only having the largest possible painting placed in the area available?
I think it would be easier if you right-clicked on a painting, it would cycle through the the different types. It would always start on a 1x1 painting.
That would work for me. Good idea. To answer other posts I'll start with or you could place it five times till you get the one you want. Great idea if that actually happened but trying to place a large painting can take anything from 1 to 50+ attempts as every painting possible can be placed on a maximum size wall.
The other comment about wanting to place smaller art. That's an easy one. I already reduce the walls size by placing soil blocks around the area I want my painting to go. In other words if I want a single block painting I enclose the area the painting is to be placed with soil blocks. That way I always get a single block painting placed exactly where want it to go and I only have to cycle through the single block paintings till the one i want comes up.
The problem becomes exacerbated more and more the larger the painting to be placed, because for example if you wanted to place a 2 block painting and enclosed the area you will still be offered single block paintings along with the 2 block painting you are after. The larger the painting you want the greater the number of paintings you will have to cycle through.
So if the largest painting that could fit in the area available were the only paintings placed the problem would be solved.
Maybe if you could drag and select the area you wanted filled...
