Alright, I guess it is a suggestion. It's probably been suggested before, but I didn't see a topic on it when I searched for it. If there is one, my mistake.
Decrease the amount of time that rain lasts.
Why? When it rains in Minecraft, it friggin' pours (it's loud and difficult to hear mobs, but I suppose that's part of the added difficulty which is fine). But it lasts forever. The main thing that bugs me is that it lowers my FPS by a noticeable bit. This wouldn't bother me so much if rain didn't last for nearly fifteen minutes of real-life time...But as it is now, I basically just have to go in hiding when it rains because it becomes that much more difficult to aim and shoot at enemies. Plus placing blocks becomes irritating.
I've actually sat inside my house, went AFK to grab a snack (~15 minutes), came back, and it was still raining. :dry.gif: I suppose on the timescale that Minecraft is on, that's a realistic amount of time for it to rain. But I don't think that a little bit of extra suspended belief (that no one will probably notice anyway) is too much of a sacrifice for better performance.
Rain is nice, but too much is a drag.
Yes, it's a minor suggestion in the big scheme of things.
But yes, it's still a valid suggestion I believe. If there's some alternative reason as to why rain has to last X minutes, then please let me know just for my own personal peace of mind. I'd like to know my suffering is not without reason.
I believe thats one of the down falls of living near or in a rainforest.
But in my SMP server, I have made a vanilla town no where near the spawn (Which is conveniently placed in a rainforest..) But it still rains (Everyone 15 mins or so) even though I am about 700+ blocks away from the rainforest.

I'm having the same issue. I mean, I suppose I could just go hermit out in the desert all of the time but that doesn't really seem like a solution.
I've made houses in nearly all of the different biomes and have always had trouble with rain...
Yes, yes, and yes! Not only is this an intelligent, well formated suggestion, but it's even something that I now actually want implemented in the game! Kudos to you sir. I love it.

Well, we still have to take in consideration this addition to minecraft only came in 1.5, which wasnt to long ago. So its bound to be buggy. Let just wait this one out. See if Notch can improve on it.
And yes, it does make sense for it to have issues since it was only recently released, that is a reasonable statement. I felt as though voicing my opinion (and opening a discussion for others to do so) on rain as it is now would be useful to Notch. :smile.gif:
there is a .png you can edit in the .jar that is used for rain. So technically you could make rain less dense I guess (theoretically) by having less rain drops on that .png ... It would still be loud, but it might make it easier to see and build/fight? Just an idea.
You know, personally I love the rain. It sounds awesome and looks cool. (Of course I really love real life rainstorms). The only issue i have seen difficulty-wise is that it is darker and plenty of mobs can spawn under trees and poorly lit areas even in daytime.
On a side note, my comp is sort of a gaming machine, so the fps isn't even noticeable with a 256x256 texture pack, (although i usually use 128x128 to be conservative.) I have played on my sister's laptop and having a low frame rate is frustrating to be sure.
I think it may be worth some kind of option in the video/sound settings for weather. Honestly most games have this. I personally wish that it rained 3/4 of the time, I just love it!
I agree with this. I live in a dessert in the middle of Arizona, so rain doesn't come by often here. Yet I love the stuff. In minecraft though, it puts everything in an amazing picture scene view. The only downside of this is that when it rains, you get to look at this picture scene for 5 minecraft days. But people, you also have to understand that Notch is Swedish, so he gets ALOT of rain.
