How would you get to Mazeworld? A portal of some kind probably. I don't think I need to randomly pick some material to make it out of since that's not really crucial to the core of this suggestion. It should probably be a little challenging to make though.
On the topic of the portal, I think when (and if) the Aether gets added into Minecraft, the only reasonable way to make a portal is with some form of block from the Aether.
Think about it this way, you need to find diamonds to get obsidian to get to the Nether, then you've got to risk your ass finding Glowstone to go to the Aether, then you've got to travel to the Aether to find the block you need to get to Mazeworld.

I agree. It would be nice for each dimension to unlock materials for the next.

People have been throwing around names for mazeworld, and I think I found the prefect one.
The Result
The result of what? Who knows. Perhaps this is the future, the result of your labor. Perhaps not. Perhaps it is the remains of a entirly diffrent culture, diffrent race, even. Nobody knows. The name is vauge and mysterious, like the place it is representing.

I do like this idea, but then people will complain about how this adds more higharchy (tell me if I spelled this wrong) to minecraft. now I personaly like the higharchy, whith you needing to get wood tools to get stone tools to get iron tools to get diamond tools to get obsidion to make a nether portal to get glowstone to make an Aether portal to get skyroot tools to get holystone tools to get zanite tools to get gravatite tools to get the mysterious mazeworld portal block and then make those blocks into the shape of an ??? to get to mazeworld. and that is the minecrft higharchy in a nutshell, unless you use the nether update/ nethercrarft. some people will complain about the higharchy the way you have suggested it, some people complain about it right now. I hope you/ we can find a way to make this work.

holycrapholycrapholycrap!!! that was epic! now everyone needs to call it The Result! It does sound a little cheesy though, not like mazeword is much better. but it does describe the complexities of mazeworld to a better extent than, mazeworld, a world of infinite mazes, whickh is what that makes you think of. A long time ago, like on the first or second page, we settled on Labrynth to describe it kind of like Deadelus' Labrynth in Greek Myths. but I guess some of the new readers skimmed over that and the name was lost. and Regular Hexahedron, did you change the OP, I haven't chacked it in a while so I can't tell after just reading it. and one last thing, are we still doing the sunless/ dying sun void that coats the world in a perpetual, but above monster spawning level, twilight?
How about you make the portal to the result from Aether dungeon lightstone and activate it by placing a redstone torch inside (you get it back)The portal is grey.
As for the maze world you could use the new rivers and turn them into canals, on either side are different biomes (building types, so spires one side, a large tower like structure on another)
As for the top of the mazeworld you could have different types of buildings so one like the biospheres from the biosphere mod but smaller. Others like the aether mod solver dungeon, and different types of towers.
Well, the Aether is a mod, and i doubt if this will be made into a mod that it would be compatible with the Aether.

Also: the new grey bricks would be quite helpful in making this place.
It would be amazing if the people from Evil Minecraft of the Aether took notice of this, and liked it. The idea is amazing, and I personally think that this would fit quite nicely into the Evil Minecraft mod. On the topic of the portal, I believe that it should be a portal made of grey wool. When you light it on fire on the inside, it will create a flat, opaque grey portal, but the grey wol surroundings would be burning away. You'd have to hop through before the portal burned itself out, after which it would destroy itself. Then it would be very hard to get back, because you'd need a Flint & Steel, and grey wool, which would be very hard o get in the Result (BTW, I like that name too). Whatchoo guys think?
I like it and mabey an item in the begining is given to you which make a checkpoint and teleports you out so you can do something else. Also if you cheat monsters should surround you and kill you. :wink.gif:
Wow, this was posted in May? And its still alive? That's pretty cool.
My suggestion is to make the portal out of some type of stronghold brick. Doesn't really matter which, but if you think about it could be a good use for all of that brick other then just decorative. Really, as of now, there is no reason to farm it because you are risking fighting swarms of silverfish for a block that has no purpose, but if it was used to make Mazeworld portals, then its a different story.
Another thing that could add to the feel is just a few new blocks here and there, maybe something to add to the surreal feel. I also think adding something like the Suitor from the HorrorMod into the maze could be really terrifying, as you would have to creep past it and you wouldn't even know where it is, you could just hear it. Just a thought though. This is a really cool suggestion, hopefully Notch actually notices this 34 page thread on the suggestion forum for his game...
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Minecraft makes me feel like I'm three. Playing with blocks and afraid of the dark.
No, he's right, this would work much better as a separate game mode than as a new dimension. This would probably work really well as the hypothesised 'adventure mode'. You would probably spawn with torches. There would have to be chests lying around with goodies in (more torches, armour and food, weapons and tools, signs, and occasionally a bed that could be used to make yourself a customisable save point).
To tie in another post I saw, the dungeons would become much bigger than currently, and would act as little tasters to give people an idea of what to expect from the Labyrinth Mode.
Finally, try tying in random red-stone and minecraft networks, such as doors that have hidden switches etc. That would be a nice touch.
EDIT: Just saw this.
How about a stasis field generated by the mob spawner? When active it causes all mossy cobblestone within an n-block radius to become unbreakable. Once you've deactivated the spawner by placing torches next to it, though, the stasis field turns off.
I would suggest showing the effects of the stasis field by having a special texture looking a bit like a mossy bedrock.
That's a good idea, but remember; pistons. I usually design the centerpieces of my house via a piston, a redstone torch, and a rare ore (diamond, redstone or lapis)
But aside from that I agree with everything here :biggrin.gif:
Gripths: These fellas hang on the ceilings of buildings/ other objects, and are difficult to spot due to most people's habits of not looking up. They extend from the ceiling and grab players, before throwing them in a random direction. Kind of like floor masters from Zelda... (Possible drops: springs, slime balls, or other objects that might allow the creature to extend like it does.[springs could make bounce platforms])
Mimics: In a maze when many are searching for treasure, mimics thrive off of eating the corpses of adventurers who thought that they were treasure chests. (could drop chests that light redstone when opened for use in traps.)
Splatterer: Monkey-like creature that throws a ball of "paint" at the player, causing their view to become disorienting and off-colored. (paint, or just paint balls that can be thrown at others, or used for more artistic purposes.)
If we somehow got the aether modders to do this, I might never leave the mazeworld.....
Man, if the aether modders tackled this next that would be incredible. Their work is top notch (no pun intended).

...that would be too much for me...
But I do like the "city" look of the idea.
