And Valdark, what makes you keep on about those *blam!* banshees when, as far as I can tell, they've been rejected time and time again as Mazeworld mobs?
That depends on who you talk to. You'll find a few suggestions that have supposedly been rejected listed in the wiki... it's all conjecture at this point until the OP moves his likes/dislikes to something official like the main post.
I happen to support the idea of the Banshee as it is very unique in function. It's a mob that controls the passive or aggressive state of other mobs and has potential to be used in interesting ways.

Yes, I do like the idea of banshees, but IMO they would be better as Plains(A.K.A. the overworld) mobs, that spawn in, say, thunderstorms and make hostile mobs come to you from distances that normally they would be unaware of you. I just don't think they would be as useful in the Mazeword with the lack of mobs in most places.
[/enlightenment]
Hey! The banshee's function could be recycled in the poltergeist mob! Say, when you attack one, it cries out, turning any other spirits in the area into poltergeists and making them hostile!

You invade this world claiming it as your own simply by your presence.
You slaughter animals for their hides and flesh.
You destroy the landscape and gouge out the earth to build your monuments to vanity.
And yet you call me monster.

That could work.
I have been thinking more along the lines that Banshees would attack when you tried to dig through the walls of the maze instead of trying to find your way through in the traditional manner.
This would keep with the solitary feel of Mazeworld as Banshees would just sit there and do nothing... you could even walk through them... unless you tampered with their area.
This way it keeps the feel of suspense. The player will quickly become aware that alerting a Banshee is a bad idea because it attracts friends and they will keep coming until the Banshee is killed.
It would be similar to the way Zombie Pig men become hostile but you would have a way to "turn it off" by eliminating the Banshee... if you have the tools.
This would also keep the maze a challenge when there aren't any visible mobs. Because otherwise players are going to just cut a strait line to that rising tower in the distance.

Okay. But maybe change the name. "Banshee" doesn't sound like something that would be in Mazeworld. And the graphic you made? It gives off too much of an 'evil spirit' vibe, while Mazeworld mobs mainly give off a 'mysterious, how did that get there?' vibe.

I have thought of it, and maybe it just has high awareness range and when it touches the district barrier, forgets about you and resumes to wander around the city scape.
Remember this thing is invisible 95% of the time, briefly becoming visible by "accident" for half a second or is aiming its crossbow at you.
Yeah, now that i think about it, it is kinda like slender man.

It was only rejected by one person, the OP has said nothing about how he feels about it from what I've seen.

That's a really good idea, how about they are found sleeping and if you either make to much noise (break a block) or get to close to it the Banshee will go off and ruin your day.

Yeah, now that i think about it, it is kinda like slender man.
If it only becomes visible 5% of the time by "accident" what is the point of it following you? Why not just lower the spawn rate by 95% and forget all the extra coding.

also why make it follow you at a distance, why not just make it spawn away from you in high locations and despawn when you move to close or to far away.

So you have it spawn less frequently... only in certain biomes... and it spawns targeting the player.
There is only a single one per cityscape, and it when "cloaked" is actually just in a state of very, very hard to see transparency. It also tries to stay at least 4+ blocks above you, and stay at least 8+ blocks away from you.
The thing actually can hover, but may only aim when walking on solid ground.

I find this mob rather complicated. I think it should simply be a rare mob that spawns atop towers and shoots the player from it.
hmm...
Maybe it uses a mechanic similar to the gargoyle statues to move around (teleports while invisible), and simply is incapable of teleporting out of the cityscape district.

I've been absent a bit due to working on my application to Mojang (wish me luck).
I will get back on making a version of the minotaur that is compatible with Minecraft in a couple of days then it will be on to making an Armor.
Sebor I'll see what I can do about your model after that.
In the meantime I'm working 7 days strait this week and had to pull another 12 tonight so if I don't respond it's because I'm sleeping.
Keep the thread alive and the ideas coming guys this is one of the best alternate world ideas I've seen and I'd like to see it become a reality in either the vanilla game or in mod form.

Technical terms: Districts: like a biome but is a different theme to the mazeworld (large set of rooms) Room: a cube of blocks with entrance ways for other rooms to connect up to, rooms can be anything from a tower to a walk way to a house to a room. Rooms can be drawn from a schematics file or generated by generation code.
Special gen block: Core(blocks that are todo with placing the rooms):
*Entrance block
*Placement block(this block will allow for a room to be place in that area used to allow for rooms inside rooms)
*more to come
Room(help add randomness to schematics rooms):
*Block remover(this block will have a random chance of destroying the block below it on generation)
*Tree gen(will generate a tree when the room gets loaded)
*more to come
