Here's what I want. You wanna know what I want? You get to know what I want. Even if it's not possible, I still want it.
Soundproof blocks. A subspecies of wool, if you will. A modified block that is coated in... Well, I haven't worked that out. I hope you all will lend me an idea for the design of it, but this is what I was thinking of.
The slime would rub off into the wool, creating a thick goo. It would then block any sound from emerging for 10 blocks in any direction.
You got a portal that needs to shut up so you can get to bed and get a fresh day? This block would halt that annoying WHHIIIIIIRSSSSHH, letting you rest in peace.
You got zombies that love watching you rest through your door? This block would stop their constant... er... moan of pleasure.
Probably not even able to implement this, but it'd end your slime troubles. Who wants to store useless slime balls, anyway.
And, if you don't want to use that idea, you could even add sound resistance to normal blocks. Like, dirt would have a sound resistance of 25%, cobblestone 35%, stone 50%, so on with every block, lessening the overall volume of the sound coming towards you.
Very intriging Idea man :smile.gif: I would try it if I had the time but alas I do not :sad.gif: It could probably implemented but would have to be modded from the very roots of the code all the way to the beggining... a.k.a. it would have to create a major overhaul of all the blocks causing compatability issues :tongue.gif: Anyways I hope someone gives it a shot :tongue.gif:
I'm sorry, what? Add the ability to wool? If I'm not mistaken, you didn't type that correctly. Besides, it'd be basically the same premise. Just a slightly different wool block that stops the sound.

It was typed correctly. Change wool blocks to have soundproofing properties by themselves without the need for some disgusting slime smeared on them.
But what I was trying to get at is that wool isn't already thick enough to block sound. Sure, wearing earmuffs or something would block sound, but not all of it? Same applies to wool. If you add a use for slimeballs in the process of this, it's even better. I'm sure there will be uses of it flying everywhere in mods/future updates, but for this suggestion, I'd rather keep it soaked in slime or something, hinting it's becoming stuffier and compact, therefore allowing less sound to travel through it. Slime isn't exactly "disgusting", unless you have a bad tendency to look away when slime is brought up in a game.

Unnecessary reality is unnecessary. Minecraft holds no concept of thickness.
It's not better. It's just another bleh use thrown out there because people have this desperate need to make slimeballs useful, even though they're too difficult to find to need a use anyway.
Plus if wool was just altered alone, it'd give it more use and avoid having to add new recipes and such.

See, I never wanted to hop onto the bandwagon for slimeball uses. I simply added that because a quick observation reveals EVERYONE wants a use for slimeballs, perhaps helping them onto my side. And wool has plenty of uses. Decoration, carpeting, pixel art? That's only a few. See, you don't NEED this block. So this is a block you can have and use if you have slime available to you. I understand Minecraft has no grip on thickness, it's simply a gesture that slime would help it along in the process of blocking sound. This is a block simply used if you have the materials, and you'd like it. Not a necessity. And why add it simply to a wool block, if people want to decorate and still have sound? Or do pixel art, yet still have sound? A flawed rejection, that post was.

Carpeting and pixel art are decoration.
If people make pixel art, they won't care about the sound, they'll care about the art. If people make carpeting, a lack of sound from the floor is no bother.
The whole idea is flawed by the rarity of slime anyway.

This is exactly what I thought, most of blocks in the game you don't need; they are just convenient.
I was thinking it would be pretty cool if you did this and it allowed you to jump great heights. (Like the blue gel stuff in portal 2)
I fear that would make things to complicated though
Your blatant disregard of my quoted paragraph is a bit annoying. As I stated again, Ygdrasel, you do not NEED this block. It is not necessity to have it. You don't have to have a soundproof room so your SMP neighbors get mad at your noteblock concert, you can talk to them and work it out. Until you get the slimeballs, they can listen to your music. Scenario solved. It's just a matter of how you take it. I understand you might have problems with it, but your blatant disregard of what I'm trying to say is annoying at the least.

Slime is real easy to get, just kill a slime with something besides a sword.

I disregarded it because it was stupid. You don't NEED plenty of blocks and that's no excuse to make them stupidly hard to get.
What if somebody WANTS the blocks? Then your suggested recipe ****s them over by needing hard-to-get slimeballs and forcing a tedious search for 8 balls per block.
Person A: "I want this block!"
Person B: "Too ****ing bad because I made the recipe hard as ****. But it's okay, because **** your wants, you don't NEED it."
Slime is real easy to get, just kill a slime with something besides a sword.
The balls are easy to get unless you run into a group of slimes. The problem is that slimes themselves - the source of slimeballs - are rare and difficult/risky to find. Hardly worth the function of this block.

I want them, and once again, slime balls are NOT hard to get. Just kill one slime and you get at least 20.

I understand what you mean, but I don't find slimes hard to find, and I don't find it that risky.

Why not just add the ability to wool?

Pay attention. You completely missed the point of two separate posts.
And last I checked, you get 2 maximum per slime killed. The big ones just duplicate.
