I made a topic on Getsatisfaction yesterday. I believe that adding several new types of fish, most of them being biome specific, depth specific, or can only be caught close to a certain type of block (i.e. ice, sugar canes, or lava/obsidian) would enhance the exploration element of Minecraft, seeing as these fish give neat little physical boosts that players will seek out to enhance their favorite play styles. And due to the conditions for catching each fish, players will have to travel long distances to catch them all, or just the two kinds they're looking for.
So without further ado, I give you the list.

Regular fish - Catchable in any water. Catch rate percentage depending on how many special fish are available on the area your hook lands on.
Raw heals 1 heart
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts
Deep sea fish - 5% catch rate where ever water reaches 7 blocks down.
Raw heals 2 hearts, then an additional 1 hearts 1 minute later
Cooked heals 3 hearts, then an additional 2 hearts 1 minute later, then an additional 1 hearts 2 minutes later.
Crab - 5% catch rate in shallow waters between 1 and 3 blocks deep.
Raw damages you for 1 heart
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts and cause armor to errode 20% slower for 5 minutes
Arctic fish - 5% catch rate near ice or on snowy biomes.
Raw heals 1 heart and cancels fire if you're burning when you ingest it.
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts and makes you immune to burning for up to 5 minutes (a bit ironic since it's cooked, lol)
Cavern fish - catchable in naturally spawned water in cave systems. 5% catch rate
Raw heals 0,5 heart every minute for 10 minutes.
Cooked heals 0,5 hearts every half a minute for 10 minutes
Flying fish - Catchable in desert biomes. 3% catch rate
Raw heals 1 heart and gives you the slowfall ability for 2 minutes (take no fall damage)
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts and gives you the slowfall ability as well as let you jump 5 blocks in the air for 2 minutes
Flounder - Catchable at shallow sea between 1 and 4 blocks deep. 5% catch rate.
Raw heals 1 heart and enables you to walk in normal speed while crouching for 5 minutes. Opens up for faster safe building in high altitude.
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts and lets you walk in normal speed while crouching for 10 minutes.
Baby squid - 5% catch rate at sea.
Raw heals 1 heart and yields an ink sac
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts
Volcanic fish - Catchable in natural water spawned near natural lava. 5% catch rate.
Raw heals 1 heart and enables the player to jump an extra block in height for 10 minutes.
Cooked heals 2,5 hearts and in addition to letting the player jump an extra block in height, also increases the run speed by 50% for 5 minutes.
Slime eel - Catchable at any water between 1 and 2 blocks deep. 3% catch rate.
Raw reduces fall damage by 25% for 5 minutes
Cooked reduces fall damage by 50% for 2 minutes
Swamp fish - Catchable in swamp biomes / near sugar canes. 3% catch rate.
Raw enables you to swim 25% faster for 10 minutes.
Cooked lets you swim 25% faster and hold your breath 100% longer than normally for 10 minutes.
salamander - Catchable in swamp biomes / near sugar canes. 10% catch rate.
Raw turns you into a zombie for 2 minutes. Effects include locking your items away in your inventory so that you can only attack with your hands for the duration, as well as giving your view a slight tint of green.
You also won't be attacked by any hostile mobs during this time unless you attack them first.
In SMP, anyone with the swamp sickness can infect other players, who also stay infected for 2 minutes and are able to pass it on as well. Zombified players cannot hurt other zombified players.
The cooked version turns you into a zombie permanently, and drains 5 hearts every minute until you die. Although you'll move around with 25% increased speed the entire time. Players who are infected by a permanently zombified player still only gain the 2 minutes infection though, and can attack you once they revert to humans again. Still, a permanently infected player has 60 hearts, meaning that if nobody takes action, this zombie can cause rampage for 12 minutes.
Zombified players can destroy blocks with their hands, but they cannot use ladders.
PS: I imagined the salamander to be catchable only in mud, which would spawn in swamp biomes as murky ponds, possibly with tall grass growing on top / around them. But seeing as there is no such thing yet, this'll have to do.

I personally think it's a great way to make swamps more interesting, dangerous and unpredictable, like swamps should be
Non-digestable marine life:
Jellyfish - 3% catch rate at sea. Throwing it on people or mobs poisons them, taking 0,5 hearts every second for 10 seconds.
Electric eel - Catchable in swamp biomes. 3% catch rate. Throwing them on people or mobs deal damage. More damage dealt to people wearing metal armor.
Not really because normal fish spawn rates would be hard nerfed to allow the other ones to spawn. Everything would add up to the spawn rates of the existing fish, but just more fish within that rate.
I like the idea of adding new fish for this would give a reason to fish other than for fun. (A flint and steel against piggies seems to be the best way to get food)
But all that heals hearts minutes later or erodes armor and all that stuff is stupid and unnecessary. A fish is a fish not a steroid.

It's better to ask a stupid question than not knowing the answer.
this would be realy good for the game, that said more kinds of fish = more kinds of food = makes the game easer
Easier than pathetically easy?

I wish I was in this :C
