As of 1.5 (and in certain versions before hand) moving water is extremely hard to wade through, and this causes a major problem when under a low ceiling that prevents jumping and/or blocking the water with blocks -- and an even bigger problem when the water flows right towards a lava pool. Much like how sneaking allows one to hold his/her place on a ladder, I think it would be good to have "sneaking" enable you to completely ignore the flow of water. You would still move very slow because 1) you are sneaking and 2) you are moving through water, but it would be movement at a fixed rate and in a direction you can control.
Your thoughts?
EDIT:
An alternate form of this idea would be to have sneaking simply provide more resistance to flowing water, rather than completely ignoring it. Think of someone crouching down and getting good footing in order to wade through a river.

Don't pick your nose with a pickaxe. Use a shovel.
It was nigh impossible to move against water in 1.4 (or was it 1.3?). It was fixed in the following update, though whether or not it remains slightly stronger I'm not 100% sure. Either way, it's not that hard to walk against a current now.
I believe it was 1.3 that was extremely difficult, but I only know by word of mouth as I started playing during 1.4. Either way, I found 1.4 to be very easy compared to how it is now.

Still, I guess this could come in handy - what if instead of stopping you altogether, which seems a bit unlikely, it just made it so you were pushed along at a slower rate?
I could go with that. What I've got in my head is that in real life, if you kinda crouch down and get good footing on the ground, it's easier to resist the flow of water than if you were just standing straight up trying to walk normally.
